ROBERT (BOB) SIDNEY CLARKE

1931 - 2023

Following a brief illness, Robert (Bob) Clarke (formerly of Winnipeg, MB) passed away peacefully at the age of 91, surrounded by his family on August 1 2023, at the Ottawa Civic Hospital.
Bob was the loving husband, for 65 years, of the late Susanne Clarke (née Alder). He was also the devoted father of Chris (Corinne) of Winnipeg, Pamela of Ottawa, and Michael (Kelly) of Moncton, NB. Bob was a proud and loving grandfather to Candice (Kyle); Cory (Shelby); Curtis (April); CaraLynn; Matthew; and Jonathan; and a proud and loving great-grandfather to Malakai, Tristan, Ronin and Taika. He will be fondly remembered as “Oncle Bob” by his nieces and nephews from his wife’s family in Germany. Bob was pre-deceased by his sister, Shirley Seabrook, and his parents, Herbert and Ellen (Patsy) Clarke, of North Battleford, SK.
Bob was born on November 26, 1931, in Regina SK. He grew up on a farm close to North Battleford SK before moving into that city when he was around 13 years old. Bob met Susanne in 1954, shortly after her arrival in Canada from Germany, and they were married six months later, after a whirlwind courtship. She was the love of his life, and he missed her terribly after she died in May 2020.
Bob was a paint and wallpaper salesman and store manager for many years and made lifelong friendships with many of the painters who bought their products from him including John Calista and Jack Lotz. He was always an active person, regularly swimming, biking, and playing golf and snooker. In fact, he was a fan of many sports, but particularly enjoyed watching the Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Bob loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisher, mushroom collector, and protector of monarch butterflies. He often engaged in these activities with his best friend, Jack Lotz, and indeed spent many weekends at Jack’s cottage on Beresford Lake, MB. Bob was also a talented artist who created beautiful acrylic paintings as well as gorgeous wood carvings of various birds and animals.
Bob will be remembered by those who knew him as a friendly and kind man who was quick witted, had a good sense of humour, and enjoyed a glass of red wine.
Cremation has taken place; the family will hold a private celebration of Bob’s life at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Fort Whyte Alive (formerly the Fort Whyte Nature Centre).
