THOMAS GERALD GILMORE
Thomas Gerald Gilmore, age 78 years. Tom passed away peacefully with his devoted wife by his side after a brief battle with cancer.
He was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Myrtle Gilmore; and his brother John Gilmore.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Elaynna (nee Ewart). Together they raised three sons: Paul (Lynn, children, Matthew, Sarah, and Jonathan), Jason (Beth Lloyd), Colin (Andrea, children, Vaughan, Myles, Rowan and Talia). He is also survived by his siblings, Wayne (Carolyn), Bruce (Pat), Elaine Klos and their families.
Tom was born on the family farm at Kelwood, Manitoba in 1945. Although Tom eventually left the farm to pursue his education, the farm never left him. His passion for agriculture steered the rest of his life. Tom earned an agriculture degree at the University of Manitoba. The “Aggie” friends he met at university remained some of his closest friends throughout his life. At university, he also met Elaynna Ewart, and somehow, he managed to convince this city girl to marry a farm boy.
Upon graduation, Tom worked three years with John Deere, then did an MBA at University of Manitoba. He became a civil servant with the Government of Manitoba for 29 years, in a variety of positions, all related to rural Manitoba. At 55, he retired to pursue other ventures: he became one of the first elk farmers in Manitoba, helped with harvest for 10 years at the Boerchers farm, and spent many summers inspecting certified seed crops and soil sampling, making more treasured friends along the way.
Together with Elaynna, Tom raised three sons in their home in Charleswood. He was very proud of his family: always involved in his sons' sports, music, education, and careers. Summers were spent at Clear Lake where he especially enjoyed boating and spending time with friends. Tom had a deep love of fishing, hunting, and the outdoors. He maintained hunting property bordering Riding Mountain National Park, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons, friends, and later grandchildren. Much to Elaynna's delight Tom had an assortment of taxidermied animals and dozens of wilderness pictures throughout their house and cottage. He was still planning a fishing trip with his Aggie friends two days before he passed. Tom and Elaynna were married 54 years and enjoyed travels all over the world including winters in Arizona and regular trips to England to visit Jason and Beth. Upon his diagnosis, he took Elaynna on a trip to Niagara Falls.
Tom passed on his love of agriculture to his children: he was proud of Jason's career designing farm related JCB equipment in England. Tom was delighted that Paul became a farmer, and he spent countless hours at Paul and Lynn's farm in Warren. He also never let Colin visit without discussing Colin's grain monitoring company. “Grampa Tom” was a regular presence in his grandchildren's lives, passing on his love of hunting, fishing, and the outdoors.
Tom loved a good party and never missed an opportunity to celebrate with friends and family. This undoubtedly contributed to the huge number of friends he had. In the spirit of Tom, we invite friends and family to a celebration of life at The Gates on Roblin (6945 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba), Friday August 18, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ducks Unlimited Memorial Giving Program, or the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.

Poem for Tom Gilmore. We little knew this morning That god The Big Man was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly In death we do the Same, It breaks our HEARTS to lose you You did not go alone For part of us went with you when the big man called you home, You’ve left us precious memories Your friendship is still our guide, And though we cannot see you You are always by our side Our family chains are broken And nothing seems the same But as God the Big Man calls us one by one “The Chain will link again”. Our Son Colin Jnr will look after you. All our love Jeanette and Colin Galbraith Snr xxxx - Posted by: Jeanette and Colin Galbraith (Friends) on: Aug 12, 2023

Our family and friends are all so saddened at Tom leaving us too early. They have either met Tom or have heard me talk about my good friend and you, Elaynna, over these many years. The memories of him always make me smile. His optimism of life was infectious and I was always in awe of his passion to do whatever he wanted. We will miss him in our lives but we will never forget him. Much love to all the family, Elizabeth & Jim - Posted by: Elizabeth Lawrie (Friend) on: Aug 12, 2023

So sorry that Tom has passed Elaynna. I really enjoyed our visits during “the crop boys” golf weekends at Matt’s cabin. Definitely a wonderful friendship he had with those guys and so much fun to listen to all the stories. The mutual admiration between he and the guys was very evident. His love of his family and his spirit for fun was always present! So sorry for your loss Matt’s Mom - Posted by: Verene Freund (Friend) on: Aug 12, 2023
