Duane passed away peacefully in his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba after a lengthy illness. He grew up in Teulon with his loving family, his parents, Sandi and Chris Bartholomew, his brother Dean (Carrie), and his sisters, Debbie (Bruce), Denise (Ron) and Dawn (Curtis) and their families.
Many fondly remember him as an intelligent, charismatic man who loved music and had big dreams. He was always entertaining his siblings and friends. Duane shared a very special bond with Dean and his family, and it was rare to find one brother without the other. His passionate, infectious energy and ability to connect is made evident by the many people who have reached out with their remembrances, love, and support. It is more appreciated than you'll ever know.
Sadly, we must also remember Duane's struggles living in an imperfect world. Duane was a respected member of the Point Douglas community where many recognized his genuine nature and his desire to improve things for others around him. People enjoyed his dry wit and sense of humour and looked forward to his company.
We would like to recognize the kindness of those who took the time to know Duane, especially those very special few who were able to reach a part of him that was accepting of help. Thank you, Peter McMullen from the Lighthouse Mission, Kathy Majowski at HART, and Samantha McLean at Mount Carmel Clinic. With your support, Duane had a community that was his home, both physically and emotionally. Thank you for being human and kind.

I was so sorry hear this. One of my earliest memories is of playing with Shorty in your big old two-storey house on Main Street. We were hiding out in a big closet, sitting side by side, leaning against a wall with our legs stretched out in front of us. I was about five so he would have been four. He asked if he could kiss me. I said, "What for?" I don't remember if he did! but I know I always enjoyed talking to him, always felt good around him, and have thought about him often over the years. I always picture him with that warm smile and always will. - Posted by: Janice Moeller (old friend ) on: Aug 31, 2023
