Arthur Michel Teetaert was born on October 27,1934, to the late Remi and Josephine Teetaert. He was in his 89th year and 65th year of marriage. Arthur lost his father at an early age of 19 years old and would live on the farm with his mother until he married. He recalled it being a very sad time losing Remi, as he remembered his father loving life and visiting with people in the little community of Medora. Arthur would grow up with the same traits as his father, loving life with his many friends and family in Medora. Art loved to share stories of his childhood and the many shenanigans he and his friends would get into. Art could always fill the room with laughter as humour was one of his strongest traits.
In November of 1958, he married Isabel Beuselinck. For most of their life, they lived on the home farm, later moving in to Medora, where they would raise their two daughters, Debbie Sambrook and Peggy Ficek. Art and Isabel, lived in a generation when having a son in the family, especially on the farm, was thought to be a great advantage. Not for Art - he was so proud of his two daughters and made it known that they filled his world. Both he and Isabel worked hard together as a team. Art was very meticulous and they both took pride in their work on the farm. Art’s daughters recall their father being the most patient dad who would teach them to work hard, but always make time for your friends.
Art loved having fun with his family and friends, when the work was done. He loved hunting, and going up north to fish with his friends. Art and Isabel would also spend many years at their cabin, at Lake Metigoshe with the girls. He burned up endless tanks of gas, teaching countless kids to ski. It was one of his many joys in life, helping out kids. Art loved animals and nature to the core. His passion in life was gardening and birds, often sharing knowledge to whoever would listen. There was never a question that you could stump him on. Even to the very end when he was feeling worn and tired, he would take the time to phone his daughters, warning them to cover up plants when chance of a frost. He loved when his children and grandchildren would ask him for gardening advice.
Anyone that knew Art, would know that his entire life was dedicated to his wife Isabel. They lovingly took care of each other, in every way possible. They did everything together, until health issues took over. After Isabel had her stroke, he did everything he could to make her life easier and full. Even though, it became difficult, he never complained and tried to keep them in their home in Medora for as long as he could. They would later settle in Boissevain, where Isabel lives in the Personal Care Home. Art resided in the building right beside the Care Home at Cherry Creek Assisted Living. He carefully chose with love the north side of the building so his window could face Isabel’s. Always thinking of his and Isabel’s love of geraniums, he would mention that they would be okay on the north side but it might be a challenge.
Arthur Teetaert was a kind and gentle man through his entire life. He was full of integrity and compassion, never being ashamed to cry. His family will loving remember the many happy tears he shed when he was around them.
Art is loving remembered by his wife Isabel, his children Debbie (Lorne) Sambrook and Peggy (Scott) Ficek, grandchildren Riley (Dustin) Carriere, Jenna (Lee) Pearson, Kyle (Jen) Sambrook, Sierra King, and Grace (Adam) Carter, as well as great-grandchildren Jayden, Mackenzie, Spencer, Will, Nolan, Charlotte and Kash.
