RENA ELEANOR CARNAHAN

May 3, 1951 - June 24, 2023

Rena Carnahan (Bridgeman) passed away on June 24. She was our sister, mother, aunt, grandma and friend. We miss her dearly.

In her 72 years, Rena had her share of ups and downs, but overall, she had a truly wonderful life. These are a few of the things, we loved about her.

Rena was proud to be the youngest of Lorne and Edith Bridgeman’s four children. As she grew up, it became clear that she had the perfect balance of her mom’s sassiness and her dad’s kindness.

Rena had the best sense of humor. She loved to laugh - often so hard her laugh became inaudible, and she’d have tears streaming down her face. At family reunions you’d fall asleep to the sound of her at the campfire laughing and reminiscing. Family was the most important thing to Rena. She valued being a part of something and in turn she made others feel this way through her empathy and generosity. She was a great person to confide in because even if she didn’t have all the answers, you knew she’d love you no matter what.

Rena had an adventurous spirit. At the drop of a hat she’d be ready to go out dancing, travel, go to a Flames game, go camping or waterskiing or take in a concert. At Rockyview Lodge she took part in exercise classes, skits, field trips and live music events.

She was the self-proclaimed black sheep of the family. What that really meant was that Rena was Rena. She was the most authentic person who was always true to herself. If you ask us, she set the most wonderful example of how to live life.

Rena left behind her sons Sean and Bryce and their lovely families. Her legacy will live on through them and all who loved her.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Reading the wonderful tribute for Rena brought back so many memories for me. Rena and I were friends "way back then" we both worked at the IGA on the North Hill. We did manage to frustrate Jim, the manager, with our laughter most of our shifts. We parted ways, Rena went to the Coast and I went east but we did connect at my parents home in Brandon when she came back from the Coast. We had such a good visit and of course many laughs. My sincere sympathy to all her family she was one of the Lord's very special people and may she fly high in the sky. - Posted by: Patricia (Weir) Pomietlarz (Friend) on: Aug 29, 2023

  • There are lots of great memories through the years of living and growing up next door to the Bridgeman family. Condolences to Helen, Diane, Harvey and families. Rena & I shared several adventures back then. We reconnected years later and reminisced about those 12th Street days. I will forever remember her beautiful smile and awesome laugh. Rest In Peace Rena. My thoughts are with you all. Joyce Brown, Victoria, BC Friend and Neighbour - Posted by: Joyce Brown (Frienf) on: Aug 24, 2023

  • My thoughts and prayers are with you all. My memories of Rena are from McAuley School … trying to figure out how to work this new-fangled thing called a computer … what a monstrosity it was!! And teaching baton after school. I think of her often because every time I look at my daughter I see her chipped tooth from missing her baton lol. Rena was devastated. RIP Rena! - Posted by: Linda Lewis (Friend) on: Aug 22, 2023
