GENEVIEVE HARRIS

1924 - 2023

The family of Genevieve Harris wishes to announce her passing July 19,2023. Her longevity has become the stuff of legends for us, having out lived contemporaries both family and friends – sure wish there was a tontine.

She was predeceased by our dad, Ed in 1968. You can believe his untimely death changed her big time. It left her looking for work and looking after three girls. Our brother married the year before – life was hard for her. It was hard for all of us. She pushed through, however, inevitably enjoying the privacy which she cherished so well and living most of the rest of her life independently.

Genevieve’s son Michael and his partner Daria are left to mourn, as well as Paula, her partner Erika, Liz and her twin sister Valerie and her husband Chaim. She also leaves ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Genevieve’s eldest grandchild, Oona sends these thoughts:

“Nana was the strongest toughest woman. She lived life on her own terms and taught us to keep going no matter what. She was feisty and spunky and loved her family fiercely. She was always there for us, and we will miss her deeply. We love you, Nana, always and forever.”

A private service will be held at a later date.

  • I would spend many summers staying with Nana at her cottage. Going to Winnipeg Beach was a fond memory for me. Nana loved spending her time, enjoying the sun and clean air. She'd have her book with her, of course. She'd wake me up in the morning by sticking her pinky finger up my nose, ha ha ha. It's because of her that I have a fondness for sardines on toast in the morning too. She'd frequently make them and I enjoyed them precisely the way she did. I miss her...she was a big part of my life and I'm thankful for her. I love you Nana - Posted by: Malcolm (Grandson) on: Aug 20, 2023
