FREDERICK JAMES (JIM) TAYLOR

September 27, 1950-August 15, 2023

It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Jim died suddenly in Brandon ER on August 15, 2023, at the age of 72. He will be lovingly remembered and has left to mourn his passing; his wife, Cathy Taylor, children Colleen (Patrick) Saydak, Christopher (Jennifer Smith) Taylor, grandchildren; Elliott, Brendan, Everett and Skyler, Brother; Howard (Janice) Taylor, Sister; Lynn Coles. Also fondly remembered by Holly Elliott (Ron), Diana Durling (Fenton Wilson), Darrell Durling (Lynda Peto) and his numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Jim is predeceased by his parents; Fred and Billie Taylor, infant brother Robbie and granddaughter Avery Saydak.

Jim was born in Winnipeg on September 27, 1950. He was raised and lived his whole life in St. Vital. He met Cathy when they were both working at Canadian Tire, and they were married in 1974. Cathy moved across the river and started their life together in his beloved St. Vital where they raised their two children and built a wonderful life together. Their home was never without a dog or cat and usually both. A lot of his time was spent at Greendell Community Centre, that his Dad helped build and where he made friends coaching ringette and playing hockey. After working contract work and being a stay-at-home Dad, Jim started his career as a school bus driver. He loved this career and did it for almost 25 years. Jim loved music, history, motorcycles, hockey, football and of course attending his grandchildren's activities and being his wife's shadow.

Jim's Celebration of Life will be held at Thomson in the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard on August 25, 2023, at 10 a.m. Private interment to follow the reception.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Brandon Regional Health Centre ER and to Margot MacInnes for officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jim's name to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Salvation Army.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Worked with Jim (and Cathy) in the early to mid 70s at Canadian Tire. Cathy lived across the back lane from my family. She on Southwood, me on Waterford. Jim became the parts manager after Cliff Stillwell resigned. He was a great guy. Worked hard, enjoyed taking my breaks with him, he was alot of fun to hang around with. Always remember his long blond locks and mustache. We always joked around that we could tell what Jim had for lunch by checking his mustache...LOL. Cathy and Jim were inseparable way back then as I am sure they were all through their life together. Had the pleasure of selling their daughter and her husband a house during my real estate career (which continues). My sincere and deepest condolences to Cathy and the family on Jim's passing. I will always remember him!! - Posted by: Cliff King (Co-worker, friend) on: Aug 24, 2023

  • Dear Cathy, I am very sorry to learn of the loss of your Jim. Sending warm thoughts and prayers to you and the family. Diane Dwarka - Posted by: Diane Dwarka (Friend) on: Aug 23, 2023

  • Our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family. Jim was a great guy and we always enjoyed his wonderful, sometimes quirky sense of humour. He always talked about the family and what they were doing and how Cathy worried too much. He was a good man and we will all miss him. St. Vital as well as the Bombers and Jets will have lost a great advocate. He will be fondly remembered. Grant & Judy - Posted by: Grant And Judy Westcott (Brother-in-law) on: Aug 22, 2023
