ANNE SKUBA
In Memory
It is with great sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Anne Skuba on August 11, 2023, at age 93. Born in Fisher Branch Manitoba, Anne's life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to her family, community, and an abiding passion for caregiving and the nursing profession.
Anne and Walter Skuba were married in 1952 and enjoyed a loving 57 years of marriage before he predeceased her in 2009.
Anne started her nursing career at Brandon Mental Hospital where she completed her RN. She later pursued and completed her Bachelor of Nursing in 1970 at the University of Manitoba. With her degree in hand, Anne took on the role of a nursing instructor at the Misericordia Nursing School. By 1974, she transitioned to working with the province in Workplace Health and Safety. Her fervent passion for bettering her community was manifested in her advocacy for workplace safety and her proactive role in anti-smoking campaigns. Although Anne retired in 1992, she remained an active advocate, serving on numerous committees that championed senior interests and healthy lifestyles.
Beyond her professional commitments, Anne relished ballroom dancing, bike riding, travelling, and culinary excursions. The moments she shared with loved ones, especially memorable trips with family and friends, held a special place in her heart.
Anne's home was a haven of warmth and hospitality. Those fortunate enough to know her were always touched by her kindness and the solace she provided. In her later years, Anne found joy in the community of Fred Douglas Place in Winnipeg, and in 2022, she transitioned to the Shaftesbury Retirement Residence.
Anne is survived by her daughters, Julie, Patricia (Larry), granddaughter Laurel (James), great-granddaughter Catherine, sister-in-law Elsie Kolbuck, as well as an extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will cherish and keep her memory alive in their hearts.
Anne was also preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mary Kolbuck; daughter, Elizabeth Skuba (2017); an infant brother; her brother, John Kolbuck (2018); sister, Katie Chudy (2018); brother-in-law, Bohdan Chudy (2000); and nephew, Ron Chudy (1985).
Our deepest gratitude goes out to Dr. Ian Kasloff, the dedicated staff at the Shaftesbury Retirement Residence, and Larry, her ever-supportive son-in-law, for their care and support.
A service to honour Anne's memory will be held at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, Manitoba, on September 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada, or a charity that holds significance for you.
As we reminisce about Anne's life, we are reminded of the love, care, and dedication she poured into all she did. Her legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire and console all who knew her.

I was saddened to see Mrs. Skuba’s obituary, and especially to see that Libby had also passed away. I always felt a warm welcome at Julie’s house, and fondly recall many happy times there. Mrs. Skuba was a good role model for us all with her cooking skills and life long learning. God bless you all Julie, Patty, Larry, Laurel and family. - Posted by: Michele Synnott (Friend of Julie during youth) on: Aug 27, 2023

Our class from the Miseri just celebrated our 50 th year reunion and a few of us were reminiscing about our instructors. Ms.Skuba’s ( as she was called by us) name came up. She definitely was a favourite of our rotation group mixing laughter with theory. She definitely left us with many good memories. Peace to you now Ms Skuba. You left an indelible impression on me. - Posted by: Gail Kulyk (Nurse) on: Aug 26, 2023
