DON SESAK

Don Michael Sesak, 71, of Winnipeg, MB, passed away from cancer at Riverview Health Centre, with two of his brothers by his side, on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

Don has left behind mother Margaret, brothers, Glenn, Dave, Ron, Grant, very special friend and caregiver Wendy Betker, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, who would endearingly call him Unky Don or Waldo.

Don was predeceased by his father Bill and nephew Scott.

In Don's younger years he worked at EH Price and Coast Wholesale Appliance, but after taking an Appliance Repair course at Red River College he became "The Hoover Vacuum Guy" owning his own business, DS Vacuum Services, for over 25 years. This is where many friends and family would drop-in to say hello, expecting to stay five minutes but really hanging out for extended periods of time, because Don was a talker, he enjoyed telling stories of his wild and crazy days. Some memories are of Don frequenting the Curtis Hotel, Brooklands Hotel, driving and crashing motorcycles, and doing stupid stunts such as lighting firecrackers while holding them between his teeth.

Many people may remember Don by seeing him drive his pumpkin-orange Ford Explorer from the West End to Elmwood, where he grew up. Recent years he would spend his time helping his mother around the yard or working part-time at Nairn Vacuum.

Don did a lot of fishing, especially when he had a trailer in Spruce Sands Trailer Resort on Lake Winnipeg. He could be spotted fishing at Silver Harbour or Hnausa Dock, usually with his brother Ron. Sometimes catching fish, but always catching a buzz.

Don was an easy person to talk to and we will all miss dropping in to visit.

He may be gone but his stories will live on forever.

Don's wish was to have no funeral service. But if you have a story to share, please don't hesitate to leave it in the Condolences and Memories section.

  • Good old Donny, known him since forever. Another victim gone too soon from the ugly C disease. Rest in peace my friend - Posted by: Sid Ruta (Old Friend) on: Sep 13, 2023

  • I am so very sad and sorry to learn of Donny’s passing. Donny and I are the same age but I am a few days older . Whenever we would be having a beer together at the Curtis I would always call him my little younger cousin. We had a lot of laughs and good times over the years. Rest in peace cousin. You have left us far too early. Love Shelley❤️ - Posted by: Shelley Produn (Cousin) on: Aug 28, 2023

  • I knew Don when I was in my teens and early twenties. He was part of a larger group of friends all of whom grew up and lived in East Kildonan. Don was a good guy and a lot of fun, I’m sorry to learn he passed away. I especially recall weekends camping at Grand Beach or renting cottages in Grand Marais. Great parties and fun times. I never saw him in his orange Explorer, but I do recall his orange MG Midget. I also recall when Don took the Midget to the dealership for a routine six month service, they filled the windshield washer bottle with battery acid; the first time he used it it burned holes in the ragtop and damaged the paint on the hood. Don was naturally upset about this but in his usual manner took it all in stride. - Posted by: Russell Riffell (Friend) on: Aug 26, 2023
