KAREN MARIE WEBER
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our sister, sister in law, aunt, great-aunt, and cousin Karen Marie Weber (nee Mason) on August 19, 2023. She left this world peacefully after years of fighting many health challenges. Karen bore her burdens with grace, maintaining a positive attitude, always being more concerned about the welfare of family and friends than her own concerns.
In recent years, she left her beloved home to live at the Golden Door personal care home where she was treated with loving care by their compassionate staff. Karen was predeceased by her loving husband William in 2021, her mother Vera Mason in1997 and her father Michael Mason in 1985. Left to honour her memory, she is survived by; her brother Randolph Mason, her brother-in-law Robert Weber, her sister-in-law Norma Weber, her nephews Steven and David Weber, her niece Larissa Feir, great-nephew Bennett Feir and great-nieces Olivia Weber and Elizabeth Feir. Additionally, she is also survived by her cousins; Betty Ann, Linda, Bob, Ken, Jeff, Larry, Raymond, Gerry, Susan, Janice, Rodney (deceased), John (deceased).
Karen was born in Winnipeg July 25, 1953 and quickly exhibited a resilience and positive attitude that would be her hallmark throughout her life. She graduated from the University of Winnipeg in 1974 with a B.A. From there, she went on to graduate from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Education in 1975, but instead of teaching, chose a career in public service. She worked for the Canadian Wheat Board for a number of years before her health challenges prompted her early retirement.
Karen loved summer and the outdoors and enjoyed accompanying her husband, Bill to vacation at Rushing River. She loved travelling and taking trips to Detroit and Minnesota and other destinations. As her health challenges compounded, Karen enjoyed staying at home enjoying her backyard. She loved filling her house with music to elevate her mood and the mood of those who visited.
In her final years, Karen was assisted not only by her husband Bill but by other family members. We are indebted to the many medical personnel, doctors and nurses who treated her with such kindness and care including; Dr. Cho, Dr. Zacharias, Dr. Jack, and Dr. Jain. At the Golden Door, we would like to thank; Tammy, Lino, Stephanie, Marina, Mira and so many others who made Karen feel at home in an environment of compassion and care.
We will all miss Karen deeply, but in our sorrow will try to remember the good times and the kind and wonderful person she was in this world.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen's memory to Assiniboine Park Conservancy Animal Care, 55 Pavilion Crescent Winnipeg, MB R3P 2N6.
A memorial service to honour Karen's Memory will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.
