LAVERNE MAXINE WASYLIW

 1955 - 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Laverne Wasyliw.

Laverne was predeceased by husband Ken, and her parents, Vicki and Peter. She is survived by son Jordan (Julie), daughter Jillian (Aidan), brother Ken Pushka (Allyson), and sister Michelle Pushka (Corey).

Laverne was a caring, kind person who adored her pets and attending to her garden. She had recently moved to Calgary to be closer to her children. She absolutely loved it there. We will greatly miss taking her to the mountains, going shopping, walking along the Bow River pathways, and our family gatherings.

Cremation has taken place and a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Laverne will take place at a later date.

  • I was truly saddened to hear about Laverne's passing. I first got to know Laverne when her and Ken lived across the street in Sherwood Park. Jordan and my daughter became close childhood friends and I could always rely on Laverne if ever I needed help. I remember very well the day of the tornado and I had to work late. I knew Erin was in good hands. I remember with fondness attending Jordan and Julie wedding in Disneyland and having a wonderful visit with both Ken and Laverne. A special lady in so many ways. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Mavis Sand (Friend ) on: Aug 30, 2023

  • Oh sweet momma. You are so loved. You left this earth too early - but, we accept that you are in a better place. A better place with your soulmate Ken. Your kindness, love and quirkiness never failed. You somehow always knew how to make us laugh. I grew up looking up to you like you were my superhero. You undoubtedly were. No matter the situation, I knew I was always safe knowing you were by my side. You always knew what to say. There’s so many memories I was excited to share with you throughout my life. I know somehow, you will still always be there right by my side. Not a day goes by where I won’t think about you. With love, Your puppy <3 - Posted by: Jillian Wasyliw (Daughter) on: Aug 29, 2023

  • You were taken from us way too soon. We’ll miss your laugh, your passion for your gardens and the outdoors, the family gatherings (including the 10 desserts you’d make because you couldn’t decide on one), your gentle nature, and your kind and loving spirit. Rest easy. - Posted by: Ken and family (Brother ) on: Aug 29, 2023

  • We will greatly miss you Laverne. - Posted by: Michelle Pushka (sister) on: Aug 29, 2023

  • Oh my goodness. What a shock to see this in the paper this morning. I met Laverne in Sherwood Park, when her and Ken both worked for the Journal. We discovered we were both from Winnipeg and that sparked a friendship for us. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. The one thing I credit Laverne, your mom for in my life, is to be honest with people. I admired her for doing so and I vividly remember thinking that I wanted to be like that. What a lady!!! - Posted by: Patti Del Grosso (friend) on: Aug 29, 2023
