VICTOR WAZNEY

It's with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Victor Wazney, on August 27, 2023, age 89, with his family by his side.

Victor was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Katie Wazney, in-laws, Fredrick and Ann Zigarliski, his brothers-in-law, Walter Skrupski, Laurie Zigarliski, infant nephew Darren Lafontaine, and many close extended family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Margaret (nee Zigarliski), daughters, Debbie (Reid Cunningham), Sharon (Byron Prendergast); grandchildren, Hailley (Arlin Conway), Shaun, Brendan (Kaitlen), Morgan, Jared, Jayla and great-granddaughters, Saylor and Nellie. Victor will also be lovingly remembered by his brother Ray (Carol), sister Dorothy (Bob LaFontaine), and Marge's sisters, Adeline Skrupski, Florence (Earl Ritchie) and his nieces and nephews.

Victor was raised in Garson, MB. He was an alter boy with a mischievous side, and a competitive baseball and hockey player in his youth. In 1955 he married Marge and in 1959, they moved into Marge's parents grocery store, Fredrick's Grocery, in North Kildonan, Winnipeg where they resided and raised their daughters until the store was sold in 1977. During this time, Vic worked at Pat's Cookies, Weston's Bakery, and in the grocery store. Victor loved the outdoors. Special places for him were Lee River, and the "Purple Pad" at Wallace Lake. Hunting, fishing, curling, bowling, skiing, snowmobiling, golf, hockey and baseball were all activities that he enjoyed doing with his family and friends. He was an active member of Seven Oaks Game and Fish for many years. Victor was a very loving husband, father, and later, grandfather. Victor will be remembered for his wit and sense of humour, great storytelling and singsongs, caring / kind nature and very positive outlook on life. Victor and Marge have been active parishioners at Holy Redeemer Parish for 60 years. In Victor's retirement, along with his many other interests, he became a volunteer driver with International Hope which he continued to do well into his 80s.

Victor's family are grateful to the very caring team of Dr. Hasdan, nurses, clinicians and health care aides during his five week stay on Deer Lodge Rehab 4th floor Ward. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Deer Lodge Foundation.

Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, September 2 at Holy Redeemer Parish, 264 Donwood Dr., Winnipeg, 1:00 p.m. with luncheon to follow. Private interment at a later date.

  • To Victor’s family: Ron and I were saddened to hear of Victor’s passing. He was such an asset to International Hope Canada from the very beginning. Over the many years of collecting medical, surgical supplies for the organization, he never failed to smile and be dependable. He always had a quick wit and a joke to tell. I am sure he carried thousands of boxes over the years. So many fond memories of him. Our sympathy goes to Marge and the family. • Dear Marge and family, I was sorry to hear about Victors' death. Despite knowing that with age and illnesses comes death, it remains for those left behind, to grieve the loss. May you be comfort each other in mourning and know that Victor is now free from suffering and at rest with God. I remember some key times with Marge and Victor, particularly at the store as I "helped out", as a bridesmaid at their wedding, the baptism of Debbie, and playing Scrabble at their home. Victor and Marge were so welcoming and generous with me. It was always enjoyable to be with them. I always admired your close and long term marriage. May you be consoled at this time. Love and blessings of strength and hope to all. Cousin Frances from Kelowna - Posted by: Frances Evers (Cousin-in law) on: Aug 31, 2023
