LIAM FARRELL SANDERS

On August 16, 2023, Liam Farrell Sanders died too young, too soon.

He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Noreen Sanders; his three beloved children, his oldest daughter in BC and Cullen and Jamie (Riley) in Winnipeg; his siblings, Colin (Gail), Shauna (Daniel), Kevin (Alex), Ian, Maura (David), Sheila, Fiona; his aunt Barbara Smith; his cousins; 17 nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and great-nephews; his friends; and many colleagues. Liam was predeceased by his father, Dr. Ronald John Sanders; his brother Kieran and his grandparents.

Liam was most recently predeceased by his wife, Tami, who died suddenly in May, leaving him truly bereft and struggling. Liam had an irrepressible spirit, and despite periods of adversity he always had a quick and lovely smile and a funny quip. He loved his family deeply and he will be terribly missed.

  • Liam and I were the best of friends starting from our early teen years. We were both the youngest of large Irish Catholic families, and so had a lot in common from the start. We traveled to Quebec when we were 15 years old to visit my sister and on that trip hitchhiked to Toronto from Montreal where Fiona and a bunch of friends from Winnipeg had a house. Liam and his family broadened my horizons about music and good food. Noreen is an excellent chef and that rubbed off onto Liam.At age 13, Liam and his dad introduced me to the game of squash at the U of M, and we played it many times including here in Victoria. We had good times at the cabin in Matlock and a very memorable trip to Mexico in the early 90's. Liam had an uncanny knack for knowing the lyrics to countless songs. We shared a love for reggae music and rock and roll. We continued to be the best of friends right up to the present. It was with disbelief that I received the news. I will probably think of him daily for the rest of my life. My love goes out to the Sanders family for the loss of your baby brother and for Noreen's baby boy. It's a great loss. • I am so sorry to hear of Liam's passing. The Saunders lived down the street from us all during my childhood and our families became great friends. Liam and I were approximately the same age so we always played together. He had a wonderful spirit and always made me laugh.Even though we had not seen each other in years I will miss him.Thoughts and prayers to the whole family.Sara - Posted by: Sara Sakowski(nee Brown) (friend) on: Sep 02, 2023
