OLE BEJZYK
Ole Bejzyk, of Winnipeg, MB passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Holy Family Home at 92 years of age.
Ole was born in Zalukwa, Ukraine in 1932. Ole's parents, Nykola and Maria, immigrated to Canada with their four children in the late 1930s to escape the Second World War. The family settled on a farm in the Komarno area where Ole spent his early years as an active member of the family farm and living a fun-filled youth in rural Manitoba. After high school, Ole left Komarno to start his first job, working with CP Rail's passenger train service that travelled across Canada. He enjoyed this job as it elicited a passion for both the history and expansive geography of Canada. Ole left the railway after a period of time and moved onto attending Manitoba Teachers college in Winnipeg. After College, Ole was hired as a teacher at Miles MacDonnell Collegiate where he was able to share his passion and knowledge of geography and history with his students, but maybe most importantly, Miles MacDonnell was where he met Sonja Mandziuk, his wife of 56 years. Together they created an enriched and loving homestead on Southmoor Road, in Niakwa Park. They both prided themselves on maintaining their large garden and had a passion for harvesting and sharing all the abundant vegetables they grew. Throughout their time together, Sonja and Ole spent many summers adventuring to their cottage in Pinawa Bay, Lac Du Bonnet, and winters hitting the open road in their RV to enjoy the sun in Florida. Ole had incredible mechanical knowledge and could fix/create anything he set his mind to and was a vast reader. In his late years. Ole moved into Holy Family home and Sonja joined him five years ago. Sonja unfortunately passed last October, but even with his illness of Dementia, we are sure he felt the gap in the world after Sonja had left.
A funeral service will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 12 at 10:00 A.M., followed by graveside services and burial in Glen Eden Cemetery.
