LAWRENCE ARNOLD NELSON
Keep your head held high, chin up, and keep smiling because life is a beautiful thing and there is so much to smile about in our short time on earth.
The passing of Uncle Arnold has saddened us all. He left this earth without suffering September 10 in the early hours of morning.
Arnold was born June 10, 1929, to John and Olive (Johan and Olivia) Nelson. He was the sole surviving sibling, one of eight, with six brothers and one sister. Uncle was raised on the farm near Ideal, MB and went on to live in Winnipeg. He was a hard worker throughout his many endeavours from on the farm, to owning a garage, to ending his career in the automotive industry before retiring at 60 with his beautiful bride.
Uncle took pride in many things. One being his music. Playing his whole life, he had a special love for the fiddle, was part of a band, and just loved getting together and entertaining.
Another pride was in loving people, all people from all walks of life. Everyone was a friend. He spent his last week’s smiling and joking with hospital staff when he could and with the many visitors of family and friends.
But his greatest and No. 1 pride was his beautiful bride Jonina (Aunty Nina to us). His love for her was endless and evident to all.
Thank you, Uncle, for the many inspirations and mentorship you unknowingly gave to us all!
Please join us in honouring our Uncle on September 26, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Scandinavian Cultural Centre at 764 Erin St, Winnipeg, MB.
Family and friends are invited to the online Tribute Wall to sign and share memories at:

A gravesite service will be held at a later date at Erinview Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his wife and family members.

I worked and carpooled with Nina for many years and Arnold was always so interesting to talk with. His love of her was amazing right until the end, He is with her again which is what he wanted. He was also an excellent poem writer and would read me his poems when I would phone him to see how he was doing. In the last few years I was talking to him more and he was so full of kindness such a wonderful person! Last time I saw him I could see he was declining but was always so happy to greet you with a smile. Arnold may you and Nina dance and sing together forever. - Posted by: Noreen Wikstrom (Friend ) on: Oct 18, 2023

You will be sadly missed Uncle Arnold, you can now join the love of your life, Auntie Nina. I still recall the summer when you took Vicki and myself camping and how you introduced us to everyone as your children, it was such a joyous summer, one that I will always treasure. I will also miss the jam sessions you both had with Carl & Shirley (my parents), if you were at the lake (Traverse Bay) you had to attend their warm up and jam sessions. There was always to story to be told. Karen Espersen (Daughter to Carl & Shirley) - Posted by: Karen Espersen (considered family) on: Sep 18, 2023
