On September 12, 2023, a marvelous mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (MAW, G’MAW, GG’MAW), age 92, joined her husband (Jim), son (Harrell), grandson (Jason), and other family members in the great beyond, leaving behind her heartbroken “kids” (Calvin, Marjorie, Susan, Audrey) and descendants.
Born and raised in Austin, Manitoba, Edna remained a country girl at heart even after years of city dwelling. Though small in stature, her intellect was as large as her love of family, to whom she was very generous with her time and energy. She met life’s challenges with resourcefulness and determination.
Gifted with immense skill as a craftswoman, she produced countless crocheted, cross-stitched, and knitted items. She loved sports and kept up with her favourite teams and golfers. With her quick mind and sharp wit, she was a formidable and engaging board games opponent and was always right on cue with a clever joke. Edna researched her family history extensively and made connections with distant relatives around the world. Her exceptional memory allowed her to easily recall details of generations long past.
“Big Ed” was a no-nonsense woman who also had a sublime sense of silly and huge love of fun. She boot-scooted across many a dance floor and stole the show in Vegas at Thunder From Down Under on her 75th birthday. And nobody could out-bling Edna! Her signature rhinestone attire earned many compliments.
