GILBERT LEO BOISSONNEAULT

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gilbert Leo Boissonneault on September 21, 2023, at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 89.



Gilbert is survived by his children, Daniel (Mona), Pierre (Debbie), Louis (Wendy) and Jean (Robyn), their mother Marie-Thérèse Poitras, his grandchildren, Joël, Lise, Melissa, Tess, Justin, Jena, Miguel, Danique and Téa, and his great-grandchildren, Alexandre, Maxime, Julien, Amélie, Gabrielle, Olivia, Dawson and Emery.

Eldest son of Marie and Léo and brother of Hector, Georges (deceased), Jean-Marc (deceased) and Loriane.



Gilbert was a proud and active member of the Franco-Manitoban community. Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, he and Marie-Thérèse (with help from their four young boys) ran a local grocery store for a number of years. He went on to have a successful 27-year career as the electrician at Collège St. Boniface. During this time, he became a steadfast representative of his union, a role that reflected his strong values and convictions.



In addition to his professional impact, Gilbert contributed to the local culture. He played a role in the development of Mélo-Manie and the Festival du Voyageur, and was a proud member of La Chorale des Intrépides for over 50 years (and many other choirs that benefited from his rich bass vocals). Gilbert also had a meditative side: he practiced the art of Tai Chi and was happy to share this passion by teaching fellow Tai Chi club members, family and friends.



Gilbert was a remarkable man who always maintained a sunny outlook and a zest for life and travel. Above all, he loved his family deeply and was vocally proud of everyone, from his sons and daughters-in-law to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren (whom he loved to spoil).





Gil, Pa, Grand-Père, we love you so much. You’ve been such a bright light in all of our lives. We’ll always remember your generous spirit and the times we shared, whether it was bowling, playing cards, chilling by the lake, catching a movie, or shooting the breeze with you in the van. We’ll miss you.





You are welcome to join his family Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at la Paroisse Saint-Eugène located at 1009 chemin St. Mary’s, Winnipeg, to celebrate his life.

  • Mon épouse Michelle et moi connaissons Gilbert depuis les années 70s, ayant croisé chemin avec lui à maintes reprises au CUSB oui, mais surtout dans les activités culturelles (et plus particulièrement dans le domaine de la chanson) de notre communauté.   • Sincères condoléances aux fils de Gilbert et à leur mère, Marie-Thérèse, de ma part et celle de mes trois enfants (qu’il a endurés avec patience durant leur adolescence). Gilbert a été mon cher compagnon durant 22 ans et je garderai toute ma vie le souvenir d’un homme bon, généreux, jovial et si sincère. Je garde de très beaux souvenirs de ces années et du bon temps passé ensemble, camping, voyages, sorties, soupers avec parents et amis, etc. Nous sommes restés de très bons amis et son départ m’attriste beaucoup.
