DONALD CLIFFORD BARR

On September 24, 2023 Donald Clifford Barr peacefully passed away in Victoria, British Columbia with his best friend Brandy by his side.

Don was born on June 12, 1954 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his parents, Jean and Ernie Barr and will be lovingly missed by his daughters, Jennifer (Andrew) and Sara; their mother Debbie; brothers, Larry and Brian (Sylvia); sister Cathy (Kerry); nephews, Jared, Matthew and Kelly; and niece Tabitha.

Don grew up in the north end of Winnipeg and loved to play sports, especially hockey at the Northwood Community Centre. He graduated from Sisler High School and spent his summers bartending at the Broken Wheel in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Don completed a refrigeration certification in his early 20s and worked for several arenas around Winnipeg. He went on to achieve an A.A.M. designation and eventually became Supervisor of the Commercial Valuation Branch at the City of Winnipeg. In 1999, Don was recruited for the position of City Assessor/Director of Assessment, Tax & Real Estate at the City of Regina. Due to health reasons, he retired in 2017. Don loved football, hockey, travelling, music, and nature. In August of 2022, he fulfilled his dream of moving out to Victoria, BC. Don’s positive outlook on life no matter what the circumstance was an inspiration to us all and will never be forgotten.

  • I grew up in Winnipeg, just down the street from the Barr household. I attended school from 2-12 and University with Don's brother Brian. As a result, I spend many a day at the Barr household playing all kinds of games with Larry, Brian and Donny. Street hockey and football in front of their house was an almost daily event it seemed. As I write this note, my mind is flooded with memories of Donny and the Barr family. Too many to mention. It is a sad day indeed. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Dan Lyzun (Friend and Neighbour) on: Sep 30, 2023
