WALTER ERNEST LONGLEY

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Walter Ernest Longley. Walter passed away suddenly at his home October 2, 2023.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marnie (nee MacLeod), his three sons, Grahame (Mary Ann), Eric (Christine), and Douglas (Lori), eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and by his brother Terry (Penny).

Walter was born in the town of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England in February, 1937, and moved to Canada at the age of four. He grew up in the Weston area in Winnipeg, attending Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute and St. John’s College. He went on to work for Canada Packers for 38 years, in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, and Halifax.

Walter and Marnie eventually retired to the shores of Lake Winnipeg, first in Ponemah then at the Rotary Towers in Gimli. He became very active with St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church in Winnipeg Beach, the Winnipeg Beach Legion, the West Shore Singers, Seniors Resources, and more.

Walter was true to his friends, committed to his faith and, above all, fiercely devoted to his family.

His vessel is at rest. His spirit lives on in all of us. Goodbye, my beloved.

In accordance with Walter’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
