With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Shirley Jean Allen, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished matriarch of our family. Shirley, aged 86, peacefully left us on September 4, 2023, in Victoria, BC, surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born to James and Jean Frame on January 27, 1937, in Rivers, Manitoba. In 1956, she began a lifelong journey with the love of her life, John Allen. Together, they built a loving home in Brandon, Manitoba, where they lived for 40 years before settling in Victoria, BC.
Shirley is survived by her three beloved children: Ric (Pinder) of Victoria, BC, Jim (Debbie) of Courtenay, BC, and Michael (Carmen) from Duncan, BC. She is also survived by her two loving brothers: Gordon (Bernice) Frame of Calgary, AB, and Allister (Anne) Frame of Cobble Hill, BC. Shirley's legacy continues through her 10 cherished grandchildren: Richard, Amy, Rajin, Jovan, Jacqui, Bree, Geoff, Jada, Michael Jr., and Madison, as well as her seven great-grandchildren: Ryder, Layla, Penny, Lucy, Isaiah, Gus, and Arden. Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband, John, in 2012, and her grandson Mitchell.
Shirley was a remarkable woman who embraced life with unparalleled enthusiasm and independence. She was a successful business owner, a skilled pilot who, with John and good friends, flew to Mexico and Montreal for Expo 67. She was an avid golfer and curler, a talented violinist, a singer and a dancer with boundless energy. She was a long time Kinette and K-40. Shirley cherished all her long term friends in Brandon, Clear Lake and Victoria.
A central figure in our family, Shirley was the "glue" that bound us together. Her home was the gathering place for generations, where her dining room table was adorned with fine china, crystal, and personalized seating name tags. Her knack for decorating transformed ordinary moments into magical ones. Shirley's love for her family was immeasurable, and she leaves behind a treasure trove of beautiful memories that will forever live in our hearts.
Shirley's zest for life was infectious, and her unwavering positivity brightened the world around her. To her, everything was "tickety-boo," and she radiated warmth and love to all who had the privilege of knowing her. We are profoundly grateful for the time we shared with her and the love she bestowed upon us.
In accordance with Shirley's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service or celebration of life. Instead, we remember her with love and appreciation for a life well-lived. May Shirley Jean Allen rest in peace, reuniting with her beloved John at last.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Shirley's honour.

Shirley was a wonderful friend starting in our Rivers days. I was a bridesmaid for her and John and she was my Matron of Honour when Don and i were married 65 years ago. She had a great sense of fun. She phoned one day and invited me over. When I arrived I could not find her anywhere but did see a large note on a pile of dirty dishes….do me. She and her Dad were hiding in another room. We kept in touch over the years..in Cobble Hill or Victoria but didn’t connect the last time we were in Victoria as she was helping Michael move. Our sincere condolences to all the family. She will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Don and Willa Barkley (Good friende) on: Oct 15, 2023
