HELEN JEAN FORLANSKI

August 14, 1925 - October 10, 2023

Peacefully, in her sleep, Helen breathed her last at St. Norbert Nursing Home.

Helen was born in Libau, Manitoba and was the last survivor of the five siblings of the Sabovitch family. She was a trooper and survived a five year in recovery for tuberculosis at the Ninette Sanitarium at age 15. She was not expected to ever leave the facility until the advent of antibiotics set her free. Following recovery and after school, she worked for a time at the Columbia Theatre on Main Street in Winnipeg, where she is remembered as the nice lady who helped impoverished children get to see the movies for free.

She married Albert Forlanski on October 28, 1950 and they were married 69 years before he passed away in 2019.

She lived most of her married life in Tyndall Park in Winnipeg before moving to the west end and then finally moving to the Nursing home. She loved sewing and needle point and in her later years, doing crossword puzzles and word searches and playing scratch tickets. She ended her work life working for Paul's Hauling for many years moving up in the company to Vice-President.

A special thanks to the staff of St. Norbert Nursing Home and Donna Mondor who was the "surrogate daughter" to Helen and Albert. Donna and her husband Vic took care of Helen and Albert in their later years.
