FREDERICK ALLEN ZAVISLAK

On October 18, 2022, at 8:20 A.M., Frederick Allen Zavislak passed away and went straight to his birth mother's arms. He was happy to be reunited with his mom. Fred was born on July 31, 1938, in the old Brandon General Hospital. He operated his backhoe for construction on the front addition, and passed away at the same hospital.

Fred was the oldest well driller in Manitoba when he passed on. Fred really enjoyed that type of work as he often said "everyone needs water for something." He always witched (dowsed) for his well before he started to dig. Better if he could find a cross stream.

In 2007 Fred had open-heart surgery at St. Boniface Hospital, as he was told he had two months to live. He spent 12 hours on the operating table. He "saw Jesus" in his room, which he often mentioned was comforting. That was on December 25th, Christmas Day and Jesus' birthday. Plus a couple more times in his big shop. One month after his open-heart surgery, he got in his 950 Cat loader and was clearing snow.

Fred enjoyed taking time out for a pickerel fish fry, an auction show, or even the odd flea market. It was like a holiday to him to visit friends and neighbors and learn more about things. At the age of 15 he was cutting ice blocks on the Assiniboine River with Roy Rice. He had a break to have his appendix removed, paid for his own operation, took time to heal, and was back to work again. Fred had his own hockey team and got to play on the big ice at the Keystone Centre. He was also farmed out to work on neighbors' land as he was a good operator and knew what he was doing.

He then moved on to construction work. Fred was at Metal Industries for 13 years or more before finally got his own company started, Fred Zavislak Well Drilling and Trucking Ltd. He specialized in making steel well caps. Fred was the "silent partner" for Zavislak Transfer. Fred's grandson Cody organized a semi truck convoy in honour of Fred. Some people stopped and removed their hats which shows a lot of respect. Every day Fred is always on our minds. We miss you always.

I would like to thank everyone for attending the Celebration of Life lunch for Fred. Thank you all who got Fred to drill a well to enjoy clean water, or any other work he helped you with.

Your wife Peggy, and grandson Cody
