On October 13, 2023, Marcia Joan passed away.
Joan was born in Winnipeg on September 30, 1937, and was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Eva Grawbowski, first husband Russell Michael, son Russell Glen, brother Ron Gray, sister-in-law Wanda Grabowski.
Joan leaves behind husband Neil Childs, son Dennis (Suzanne), step-children, Shannon (Richard), Erin (Jonathon), Brennan (Kim, predeceased), brothers, Ed Gray (Nancy), Stan Grabowski, and sister-in-law Gloria Gray. Joan also leaves six grandchildren, Rachel, Matthew, Rebecca, Stephanie, Alan, and Simon; four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Joan built a career as a Librarian, retiring as branch head of the Transcona Public Library where her favourite activity was reading to many young children during “storytime”. After retirement, Joan spent many years volunteering in various museums and wildlife organizations. Of her happiest times were the many adventures she went on with Neil, travelling the world by air, land, and sea, and exploring Canada and the USA in their RV.
Marcia Joan has been cremated and a private celebration of her life will be held by her family.
