LORNA MORRAN

With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Lorna May Morran on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon, Manitoba at the age of 68.

Lorna was born May 24, 1955, to Maurice and Hazel Rinn, the youngest of four children, and raised on the family farm northwest of Gilbert Plains. She attended Plainview School and later Gilbert Plains Collegiate.

Lorna married David Morran in 1974. They moved to Grandview in 1978 and raised three children. Lorna shared in David’s passion for the outdoors and the family spent many weekends camping at Childs Lake, fishing, and snowmobiling. Although she was not a fan of housework, she excelled at DIY home renovations and maintained a large garden that kept her family well-fed.

Never one to let moss grow under her feet, Lorna returned to school in 1987 and completed an accounting course at Assiniboine Community College in Dauphin. She worked for several businesses, including 10 years at the Grandview Co-op. She settled in to work at the local grain elevator, currently known as Richardson Pioneer, for many years.

Lorna enjoyed volunteering and was involved in many community organizations, including the Grandview Legion and the Grandview Band (she played the tuba). She volunteered regularly in her children’s various recreational activities. Somehow, she found time to spend with friends, playing cards or socializing at the Snoball or a warmup shack.

After David’s passing in 2012, and recovering from a stroke in 2013, Lorna relocated to Brandon, Manitoba, to be closer to her family. Lorna welcomed a new chapter in her life and found a true friend in Roger Morran. They became roommates and companions in retired life. They enjoyed attending music concerts, Club 77 dances, and dinners with friends. Living at Monterey Estates retirement community gave Lorna many opportunities to volunteer and make new friends.

Spending time with her grandchildren was Lorna’s number one priority. She spent countless hours taking her grandchildren to the theatre to see the newest movie, and organizing trips to museums and the zoo. She bought a camper and spent summer vacations with her grandchildren at Clear Lake and Turtle Crossing.

Lorna was active right up until her sudden illness in September 2023. She will be remembered for her tireless devotion to her family and community. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, and friend.

Lorna is predeceased by her husband, David in 2012; father, Maurice Rinn in 1988; mother, Hazel Rinn in 2017; sister, Linda Foreman in 2012; sister-in-law, Darla Morran in 2015; brother-in-law, Ervin Morran in 2021; and niece Melody Foreman in 2021.

Lorna is survived by her daughter, Davelda (Clay), of Brandon; daughter, Teresa, of Brandon; son, Bain (Shantel), of Brandon; five grandchildren, Caleb, Tyra, Logan, Dillon, and Hudson; siblings, Clifford Rinn of Gilbert Plains, and Edith (Mervin) Robak of Roblin; friend, Roger Morran, of Brandon, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and extended family.

Funeral Service and interment was held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from Grandview Memorial Gardens and District Cemetery in Grandview, MB with Rev. Steve Wilson officiating.
