It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Murray Hilton at the age of 90 years at Tuxedo Villa Care Home.
Murray is deeply missed by his daughter Kerry Hilton; son-in-law Michael Gordon; grandchildren, Kayleigh Gordon (Dustin), Sean Gordon (Madisson) and great-grandson Wesley. Predeceased by his wife Carole and son Kevin.
Murray was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to May and Fred Hilton. An only child, he learned early on that hard work is the price of success. Murray loved to tell the story of how he met the love of his life, Carole, swimming in Wascana Creek with her girlfriend. He earned his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Saskatchewan. They married on August 29, 1960 and moved to Winnipeg, as he had a job at Dominion Malting. Later, Murray got hired as an Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Management.
The family moved to Corvallis, Oregon in 1972 to 1973, so Murray could obtain his M.B.A. degree at O.S.U. He wrote four textbooks, one of which, Modern Advanced Accounting in Canada is still used to this day. Murray had many professional achievements, including acting Dean of Accounting and Finance, U of Manitoba, and Director, I.H. Asper School of Business, Faculty of Management Centre for Accounting Research and Education.
Murray and Carole were Blue Bomber season ticket holders since 1960. They enjoyed travelling in their later years, Puerto Vallarta being one of their favorite vacation spots. After Carole’s passing in 2012, Murray took his daughter and son-in-law on a Caribbean cruise, and to Puerto Vallarta three times!
Special thanks to the staff at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home for their compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal service, per Murray’s wishes.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, which was one of Murray’s passions.

I was a student in professor Hilton’s Basic Accounting class in 1967-68. I enjoyed the class very much and his teaching in particular. When I decided to change courses in midstream, Professor Hilton came and spoke to me personally, to make sure I was making the right decision. I’ll never forget his genuine concern that I was making the right decision. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Paul (Student) on: Nov 08, 2023
