With sadness we announce the passing of Don Ross on October 19, 2023, at the Davidson Memorial Centre at the age of 93 years. He was predeceased by his loving wife Grace on March 25, 2002.
Don was born in Deloraine, Manitoba on October 2, 1930, to Ada and Gordon Ross. He has one sister, Shirley, and brother-in-law Bill (daughter Cathy) Anton.
Don joined the Manitoba Telephone System in 1951 and spent his entire working career with MTS, retiring in 1988. His life changed when he met Grace, an MTS operator, and they married on St. Valentine’s Day 1953 and he was welcomed into the Mooney family and the Cartwright community.
Don was a lifelong reader (particularly enjoying suspense novels); and an active outdoorsman, loving fishing during his younger years and golfing in his retirement.
When he and Grace retired, they had more time to appreciate the cottage at Rock Lake where they enjoyed fun times with their lake friends. After Grace’s passing, Don continued to spend many years at the lake while his health permitted, with his faithful companion Bud by his side.
Don will be missed and lovingly remembered by sons, Lorne (Gwen), Garnie, daughters, Vicki (Jack) and Cindy; and grandchildren, Leigh (Chad), Stacey (Kiely), Lynn (Sandy), Lindsey (Kyle); and great-grandchildren, Carter, Colby, Cameron and Ellie.
A funeral service for Don will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Cartwright United Church.
The family sends heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Davidson Centre for the care Dad has received. The family sincerely appreciates all the love and assistance provided to Dad by Garnie and Cindy over the last several years.
Flowers gratefully declined. If anyone wishes to make a donation in Don’s memory, please consider donations to the Cartwright and Area Foundation.
