Thomas Anthony Middleton passed away on October 18, 2023, at the age of 71, in St. Albert, Alberta. He had a courageous and lengthy battle with blood cancers, multiple myeloma and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).
Tom's life journey was one of growth and dedication. He was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As he pursued a degree in Zoology, he began his career with the Manitoba Provincial Parks Service at Falcon Beach, Manitoba. Later, he returned to the University of Manitoba and earned his MBA. Working alongside the RCMP at Falcon Lake encouraged him to change directions and in 1976 he joined the RCMP. Tom served in various capacities across Canada, concluding his nearly 34 year career as the Commanding Officer of "G" Division in the Northwest Territories.
Tom had a passion for the great outdoors. His favourite pursuits included canoeing, camping, biking, golfing, skiing, and fishing. He was known for his tireless work on countless projects and his willingness to lend a helping hand or a tool to anyone in need, whether a neighbourhood child, a school class, or a sports club. Tom was a problem solver, never shying away from a challenge, and could often be found in his garage crafting some type of invention to make a task easier.
His legendary pancakes were a testament to his creativity. Kids and grandkids loved watching his designs come to life adorned with M&M’s, smarties, and chocolate chips.
Tom leaves behind a legacy of love and generosity, and will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Susan; daughter, Ashleigh (Shawn Andersen) Middleton; son, Scott (Martha) Middleton; grandchildren: Emily, Rebecca, Thomas, and Mackenzie; sister, Pat (John) Pastor; nephew, Dakota Pastor; brother-in-law, David Evans; sister-in-law, Jennifer Evans, as well as many cousins.
Words fail to convey the immense void left by his passing, nor can they express the profound gratitude for the joy and wisdom that he shared with all fortunate enough to know him.
A private celebration of Tom's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Tom's memory to the Myeloma Alberta Support Society www.myelomaalbertasupportsociety.ca.

Tom worked with me and others on a highly sensitive corruption file during his service with the RCMP in Ottawa. I came to know Tom well during our time together and developed the greatest of respect for his hard work, intellect, professionalism, integrity, and good humour. He added a spark to our team, which will not be forgotten. Tom has left the world far too soon. Our hearts go out to the family. RIP Tom... I am deeply saddened by this, and offer condolences to Sue, Scott, and Ashleigh. Tom was one of the finest persons I’ve known. I was privileged to work with him in Vancouver and Courtenay. You will be deeply missed by so many, my friend. - Posted by: Michael Duncan (Friend, co-worker.) on: Oct 30, 2023
