Mom, you and I spent your last 5½ years together in your apartment after your debilitating stroke (loss of normal speech and balance) which immediately brought on the full-blown dementia. It took a while to accept the fact that you didn't know who I was but I understood that none of this was your fault. You liked to go out so almost every day we would go out, have coffee and shop with the help of handi-transit. Alan, your grandson, would come and take us out sometimes to go eat or go get ice cream or just go for a ride which you so enjoyed. But after your valiant fight and shortly after your 98th birthday party pneumonia brought it all to an end. We always had a very close bond so when the thing that I never wanted to happen to you, happened—
It's been 10 years and my heart still aches sadness and secret tears still flow What it meant to lose you, no one will ever know.
Your daughter Bonnie Your grandson Alan
