Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD WILSON
Lieutenant-Colonel Richard (Rick) Stanley Wilson (retired) passed away peacefully in Kingston, ON, on November 3, 2023, with family by his side. Born in Rossland, BC, on September 25, 1946, he is survived by his wife Bonnie (nee Daye). Rick is lovingly remembered by his daughter Colleen (David) of Ottawa and son Daniel (Stephanie) of Cobourg.
Rick grew up in beautiful Kimberley, BC, and joined the Regular Force as an Artillery Officer in 1964. Shortly thereafter, he was posted to northern Germany where he met Bonnie, a young Nursing Officer who quickly became the love of his life. Together they enjoyed numerous postings across Canada, the U.S. and Europe, before culminating his career as the Base Commander of CFB Shilo, where he retired in 2001. Never one to sit still, he spent many happy seasons exercising his green thumb at the Green Spot garden store in Brandon, MB, and in his own backyard. In 2014, Rick and Bonnie moved closer to their children and grandchildren, Madeleine and Emme, in Ontario, settling in Kingston and reuniting with old friends and meeting many new ones.
The celebration of life will be held at James Reid Funeral Home, Kingston, on 10 November from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to Homes for Heroes Kingston, a local village for veterans which provides critical resources, services and training to help veterans integrate and thrive in civilian life. homesforheroesfoundation.ca/kingston

Colonel Wilson did so much for Shilo but also the communities that surrounded Shilo. He took the time to acknowledge everyone around him and he never forgot anyone’s name no matter how brief your conversation was. I read a quote once that said we should make everyone we meet to feel like we are walking them home. Happy and safe. Colonel Wilson had this ability. I am saddened by this lose and I barely knew him, my heart and prayers are with you his family who truly knew him. - Posted by: Marney Manuliak (Friend) on: Nov 09, 2023

My deepest condolences to the family, I'm saddened to hear of Rick's death. Rick was most fun and knowledgeable of gardening. His yard here in Brandon was beautiful. Every time I look at a glass polar bear I bought at their yardsale, I think of them. "Wherever a beautiful soul has been there is a trail of beautiful memories" RIP Rick....... - Posted by: Alice Hogue (Brandon Garden Club Friend) on: Nov 09, 2023
