MARGARET SARBACHER

(nee RUPPENTHAL)

March 12, 1931 – November 5, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mom and Nanny, Margaret, on the morning of November 5, 2023, at the age of 92 years, following a lengthy illness. Although we are all missing her so much already, we are comforted in knowing she has finally found the eternal rest and peace she so deserved.

Our Mom lived a long life full of love. She is survived by her three children: Ingrid Scham (Jeff), Curt Sarbacher (Gisele), Laura Gilberto (Don); grandchildren: Andrea (Fred), Karina (Kelly), Kyle (Nicole and Charlie) Anthony, Taeylor, Julianna, Nicholas, and Connor; and great-grandchildren: Emelie (Emmee) and Anders.

Margaret was predeceased by Rudi, her loving husband of 51 years, her six siblings, Freddie, Willie, Della, Eddie, Wilma, and Florence, and her infant granddaughter, Isabella Eve.

Margaret was the youngest of seven children born to Christian and Carolina Ruppenthal. They lived in their family home on Seymour Street in the North End. Our Mom shared many stories of her happy childhood despite growing up during financially constrained times and losing her elder brothers at tender ages. She attended Faraday and Isaac Newton schools before technical college leading to her employment as a legal secretary.

Margaret met the love of her life Rudi, and they married in 1957, settling in their forever home on Spruce Street in the West End. Our Mom was the true epitome of a HOMEmaker in every sense of the word. Her family was her world and she devoted herself into caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren with an abundance of love, nurturing, humour, and laughter. She has left us all with countless precious memories to cherish forever.

Margaret was a faithful lifelong member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and subsequently Messiah Lutheran. Her faith and love of God guided her through life’s challenges and she instilled her strong values in her family.

Shortly after our Dad’s sudden passing in 2008, our Mom was lovingly cared for by Laura and her family before moving into Oakview Place in December 2019. Despite her long battle with illness, the sparkle in her eyes and the warmth of her loving smile never diminished. She found great joy in the visits of her grandchildren and of her wee great-grandchildren Emmee and Anders. Her face would light up every time they came to see her.

A celebration of Margaret’s life well lived will be held on Tuesday, November 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Mosaic Funeral Home Chapel located at 1839 Inkster Blvd. A private family interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, our family would be grateful for donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

She is not far,
she is always near,
in the memories that you hold most dear.
In the hearts that still care,
In the LOVE that goes on…
she will never be far.
She will never be gone
Rest in peace dearest Mom & Nanny
