MARIA WESSELIUS

December 17, 1934 – November 10, 2023


Maria (Rietje) Wesselius, nee Malipaard, passed away peacefully Friday November 10, 2023, in the presence of her family at Brandon General Hospital. She was 88.



Maria was born in 1934, in the small village of Leimuiden in the Netherlands, and immigrated to Canada in 1956. She was married to Andries (Andy) Wesselius October 18, 1958, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Brandon, where they remain members to this day. Andy and Mary celebrated 65 years of marriage in recent weeks, and Mom was thrilled to be surrounded by her family and friends.



Maria was predeceased by her parents, Jan and Annigje Malipaard; brothers Jan (infant), Piet, Cornelis, and Adrianus (infant), and sisters Antje and Elsje.



She is survived by her husband Andy, her five children Jerry (Valerie), John (Tina), Jennefer (Gene), Ken (Sue) and Cathy (Allan); grandchildren Brian, Tyler, Ashley, Amanda, Geoffrey, Corinna, Samantha, Breanne, Josh, Randy, Jade, Alexis and Sara; and great-grandchildren Maviana, Averie, Kai, Scarlett, Wyatt, Jack, Hunter, Eli, Brian Jr., and Kennedy. She is also survived by sisters Leny, Bea, and Aagje, and brothers Jan and Adrianus, all in the Netherlands.



A celebration of Maria’s life will take place Saturday November 18, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Brandon. Cremation has already taken place.



The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Möller and the staff of Ward 3A at Assiniboine Centre.
