Alene enjoyed family activities, being a working partner with Duncan in the construction business, cottage activities at Oak Lake, holding musical family gatherings at 144 Park St. around the Welch piano, travels from Cape Breton to Vancouver Island and many American states. She enjoyed sewing wedding and bridesmaid dresses and costumes for all occasions, garage sales, Scrabble, and visiting at her children’s homes. Alene was all about family, taking pride in her home and kitchen, putting excellent meals on the table for her family and friends.

A member of St. Paul’s United Church, she served on several committees, belonged to Village Choir and Prayer Shawl knitters, River Valley Historical Society, Red Hat Ladies, and Eternal Springs. As a young woman Alene joined the Virden Rebekah Lodge and remained an active member as long as the Order existed in Virden.

Alene is survived by her much loved family Norma (Don Cole), Edythe (Wayne Clayton), and Murray; grandchildren Warren Cole (Michelle), Laura Clayton, and Wesley Clayton (Leilanie); great-grandchildren Caden Cole and Trenton Cole; sister Hazel Brunt, sisters-in-law Shirley Welch, Phyllis Murray, and Nancy Murray, and life-long friend Winnie White (Dale).
