Ernest passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the age of 91 years, with his family by his side, at Circle Drive Care Home.
Ernest was born in Rosetown, SK on February 19, 1932, and shortly after, the family Mary and Michael Michaluk, sister Olga and Ernie moved to Saskatoon where Ernie’s dad continued to work as a section man for the CNR. His sister Jean and brother Bill were born in Saskatoon. He attended elementary school at St. Mary’s, where he excelled in hockey. He spent his high school years at Bedford Road Collegiate. He was an Air Cadet during high school. He left Grade 12 to join the RCAF. Ernest’s work as a Certified Engineering Technician took him to many parts of the world. He was always grateful for his work with the PFRA and the Department of Transport.
Ernest is survived by Antoinette, his wife of 67 years; his children, Michael, Danny, John and Lisa and their children, Dustin and Taleisha, Kody and Jay; his sister Jean, and brother Bill and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Mike and Mary, his sister Olga and many relatives.
His work with the Department of Transport took him to Winnipeg, where he was bedazzled by a beautiful young Italian woman, Antoinette ‘Tootsie’, whom he married in 1956. They settled in Winnipeg and raised their young family of four in Transcona. In Winnipeg, Ernest not only worked for the Government of Canada, but was also active in the Parish of St. Joseph’s Transcona, the Knights of Columbus, where he rose to the rank of Grand Knight. He continued his love of hockey as a coach in Transcona. His sons, of course were the stars of his teams. Ernest was a renowned barber. His sons and many neighbourhood boys sported his signature scalped haircut. Ernest’s work took him to the Far North where he did work on the DEW Line and for NORAD. In 1980, he moved his family to Saskatoon, when he was appointed Saskatoon Airport Manager, a position he held until he retired. For the next 35 years he worked as an Airport Consultant with the Department of Transport in Barbados where he maintained a home. His consulting work took him to many Caribbean countries. Throughout his working career, Ernest made many lifelong friendships, none stronger than his friendship with Derick and Sandra Williams and Jim Ehman. Ernest was admired and respected by all with whom he worked
In his later years, Ernest faced valiantly, without complaining, many health issues. He spent the last 15 months at Circle Drive Alliance Nursing Home where he soon became one of the staff’s favourite residents. Ernest’s family is grateful for how this professional staff treated Ernest with kindness and respect. May he rest in Peace. Vichnaya Pamiat!

It was so sad to hear of Ernie’s passing. Our family lost touch after our father passed away in 2019. We tried contacting Ernie and Tootsie after that but the phone number had changed and we had no other contact number. Please tell Tootsie that we have been thinking of her and Ernie all these years and wondering how they were doing. I watched the church service and and saw Tootsie and the family, it was lovely. Our sincere condolences to our favourite (auntie) Tootsie, Michael, Danny, John and Lisa. The Koley family all have very fond memories and lots of photos growing up with the Michaluk family. Hugs and kisses for you all. Rest in peace Ernie. - Posted by: Bento, Kym, Jordan and Leanne Peixoto (Lifetime friends ) on: Nov 24, 2023

My deepest sympathy to Tootsie & family. My parents were neighbours back in the 1960's in Transcona. I remember the gatherings of all the neighbours & children. Going to church on Sunday at St Joseph the Worker. My parents (Walter & Pauline) loved to socialize with Ernie & Tootsie. Walter will be happy to see Ernie up in heaven as there will be plenty of catching up to do. My heart goes out to the family as it is always too soon to loose a loved one. Hugs to you all. - Posted by: Debbie Griffiths (Bartosh) (Neighbour in Transcona) on: Nov 18, 2023

Ernie was always a lot of fun. We take solace in the fact that he is at peace and enjoying his spot at the banquet table in heaven.
