IWAN (JOHN) SUPROWICH

John was born in Gardenton, Manitoba, to Stefan and Katherine, he was the ninth child of 12.

He attended school in Gardenton and then Teulon, leaving to teach in Alonza and Hadashville. He furthered his education at Teachers’ College in Winnipeg and then taught in Gimli, Manitoba. After marrying Delores Politi, he returned to and graduated from his Education studies at the University of Manitoba. He was then employed by the Winnipeg and the Assiniboia South School Divisions. When he retired, he had taught for 35 years!

Outside of work, John loved to fix cars, renovate houses, curl at the club level, and spend time with family, helping when and where he could. He was committed to donating blood and delivering Christmas hampers. He spent many happy retirement years in Winnipeg, building a cottage at Black’s Point on Lake Winnipeg and enjoying the outdoors all year long. Later, he and Delores moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta and spent 26 years there. He gardened, took in the year-long milder weather, and appreciated the beautiful Prairie scenery. They moved to Creston, BC three years ago to be closer to family, becoming an expert at Sudoku and taking in the views of the valley and mountains from his deck.

John was predeceased by John, Nick, Mary, Bill, Florence, Lee, Anne, and Sonia.

He is survived by his wife Delores, children, Teri (Doug), Dan, Andrea (Marcel); grandchildren, Jessica (Sebastian), Brittany (Jody), Matthew (Kelly), Ashley (David), and Pierson; as well as 12 great-grandchildren. He leaves his brothers, George, Alex (Betty) and Frank (Mariette) and many nieces and nephews. He was loving and kind to them all.

John passed away peacefully at the Creston Valley Hospital on November 11, 2023.

We would like to thank the paramedics as well as the Cranbrook and Creston Valley Hospital staffs. Their understanding, care, and compassion was beyond wonderful and most appreciated.

As John requested, there will be no funeral service.

Trees, which he so treasured, will be planted as a memorial tribute. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Condolences to John's family and friends. I was privileged to team teach with John for several years at Westgrove School. He was a wonderful teacher, and a great humanitarian. He was always kind and generous as well as having a great sense of humour. - Posted by: Nina Logan (colleague) on: Nov 18, 2023
