Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN MARC OUSSET
Jean-Marc (67 years old) passed away peacefully after a long illness at the Deer Lodge Centre on September 20, 2023.
He was the beloved partner of Dawn; father of Claudia, Yoann, and Sebastien; grandfather of Sam, Jack, Elliot, Theo, and Remy; brother of Mireille, Martine and Stephane; and will be missed by stepchildren, Sara, Owen, and Caitlin, his niece Audrey and great-nephew Gabin. He will always be remembered for his love of good music and food, strong sense of humour, great courage, high spirits, and giving back to the young people of the francophone community across Canada and overseas.
Jean-Marc was born in Montréal and has ancestors in France, where one sister still lives today. After gaining his degree in communications and journalism in Montréal he moved to Winnipeg to begin his career in radio in the 1980s. Here, he hosted numerous shows including "Radio-reveil", "Chute Libre", and "Samedi Détente" covering a broad range of topics from music to sports and cuisine. He was passionate about showcasing new artists but also hosted international stars from around the world. His friends and colleagues describe him as having a "voice of velvet" and "having a talent for making instant connections", and he is also known as a mentor to many in radio and videography.
Jean-Marc was known for his passion and contributions to the francophone community and leaves behind his legacy of "Le Festival des Vidéaste", a film festival for French-speaking young people to give the participants an opportunity to create and showcase short films. The festival which started in 1992 has now mentored thousands of students and will continue to inspire and support young film-makers.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at St Boniface Cathedral, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on December. 11, at 1:00 p.m
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Le Festival des Vidéastes du Manitoba and/or the Manitoba Stroke Foundation in JM's memory.

I truly thought of Jean-Marc as my French brother and friend. We all loved food and would compare wine labels and pairings over dinner. Movie nights were also great although Dawn, Alan and I would talk too much for Jean-Marc film pleasure. He was tolerant of our bad habit though. We grew to know and love his kind and gracious manners and very French deportment. You will be missed Jean-Marc. - Posted by: Kathleen Christensen (Sister-in-law ) on: Dec 11, 2023
