Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONNA RUTH FREEMAN
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Donna Freeman, on November 22nd, 2023, at the age of 84. She is survived by her son Greg Freeman, daughter Barb Thompson, daughter Jacquie (Laurie) Stamp, son Barry (Mariana) Freeman, grandchildren, Jana (Rob) Golinski, Lance (Mallory) Thompson, Amanda (Richard) Stamp, Landon (Jessica) Stamp, Andy Freeman, and Leah Kruk, and great-grandchildren, Theo, Ladd, Brielle, Lexa, Remi, and James. She is also survived by sister-in-law Roberta Edgar.
She was predeceased by her husband Jack, daughter-in-law Cathy Freeman, son-in-law Keven Thompson, sisters and brothers-in-law Millie and Keith King, Bert and Ray Bennett, Dot and Donald Armstrong, Lorraine and Bob Broughton, and Barry Edgar.
Mom was a telephone operator in the 60s and 70s, and although her memory began to fail in recent years, she could still remember most phone numbers in town. After the telephone office closed she began working at the liquor commission, eventually becoming the store manager.
She enjoyed cooking and baking, and her chocolate birthday cake was always a favorite. If you grew up on Bruce street you can vouch for that. She loved Christmas and often went overboard with presents, and decorated to the max. She was like a kid and we often had to wrap her presents in odd shaped boxes to keep her from guessing what was inside.
Her favorite colour was lilac, at one point painting the trim on the house that colour. She enjoyed knitting and birdwatching, and she had beautiful penmanship. She didn’t like having her picture taken and did not like attention on herself. She was always rearranging the furniture. Dad said if you don’t like the chair in that spot just wait a few days, Donna will move it! After Dad passed, Mom reinvented herself and took up painting and golfing. Both hobbies brought her much joy and new friendships.
She was most proud to have raised four children that love and support each other. In that spirit we would ask that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support the restoration of the horse in Central Park. Donations can be made by cheque to: Town of Melita, Box 361 (and in the memo, horse rejuvenation memorial), or etransfer to admin@melitamb.ca password “horse”.
A private graveside service for family will be held at a later date.
