It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Harley Berringer on November 10, 2023 at the age of 80.
John was born in Fort William, Ontario on April 18, 1943 the son of Russel and Hilda Berringer. John spent his teenage years in Winnipeg, attending Kelvin High school and the University of Manitoba, where he graduated in 1960.
He joined the Phi Delta Theta fraternity where he had too much fun. John then travelled Europe and beyond, and landed eventually in Kenora, Ontario where he was a senior partner in The Standard Realty and Insurance brokerage.
John was a keen skier and a consummate family man. He met Rowena skiing at Sunshine Village and they married in 1982. Family came first for John and will be deeply missed by Rowena, daughters, Lindsay (Peter), Joanna (Eddie), Kelly (Jordie) and grandchildren, Annabelle, Felicity, and Stanley.
John loved Lake of the Woods and spent 50 summers sailing, boating, fishing and exploring with his girls, his friends and their families. John was a man who couldn’t sit still. He was vibrant, curious and engaged. He was a great friend to all.

How fleeting life can be. Since the beginning of COVID we had been meeting every Friday night at either his place or mine and suddenly we won't ever be doing it again. And there's so much to talk about. If there was ever anyone who could get me "up" or get me going, he was it. I really miss him. - Posted by: Donald B Cameron (Neighbour and friend) on: Feb 10, 2024
