GORDON FREDERICK FROOM

Gordon passed away quietly on November 21, 2023. Dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend-he will be sadly missed by his son Darrell (Shirley), granddaughter Andrea (Xander), sister Joyce Kolba of Sidney, BC, nieces Sandra McCrea, Allyson (Geordie), and Barbara all of Winnipeg, and nephew Frank (Norma) McCrea of Victoria, BC.

Gordie was born May 18, 1933 at Carberry, MB to Beatrice (nee Williams) and Frederick Froom. He grew up in Winnipeg, attending Gordon Bell High School. Upon leaving school, Gordie was employed 20 years at CP Tele-Communications before finding work with Northern Messenger. While at CP, Gordie met and married Gladys Bodnarek, and Darrell was born when they lived on Gareau St. in St. Boniface. He and Gladys divorced in 1965.

Gordie was extremely proud to be with Canada Post for 30+ years- first as a letter carrier, then inside with Parcel Post. He was the oldest Canada Post employee in 2013 when he celebrated his 80th birthday while at work!

He and Darrell shared a love of vintage cars, and together they attended many Show’n’ Shines and Autoramas. Gordie loved to travel, taking road trips to California, Yellowstone, and western Canada, and tropical vacations in Barbados and Aruba. He was very fond of his cats Sam and Grey Lady.

Health problems forced Gordie into retirement, then into assisted living, and finally Vista Park Lodge PCH. Sincerest thanks from the family to his caregivers. As per his wishes, there will be no formal service and cremation has taken place. If desired, please donate in Gordie’s memory to Parkinson Canada or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

  • Sorry to hear of Gord's passing. I would like to pass on my condolences to his family. I worked with Gordie for several yrs at Can. Post, and always enjoyed his company as we often went to the legion for dinner. He was great to work with and always had a laugh about something; he was quite a character. RIP my friend.
