JAMES MITCHELL

It is with great sadness that the family of Jim Mitchell announce his sudden and unexpected passing on November 21, 2023, at Roblin, MB.

Jim was the beloved husband and partner of Annie and incredible father to Whitney and Jamie. Jim and Annie spent over 50 years of their lives together. To Annie he was her rock, always there to be part of whatever scheme / dinner / social and family gathering / gardening project Annie was planning. Always without hesitation he gave a very willing helping hand with guidance, encouragement and maybe suggesting some restrictions (when needed)!!! Annie and Jim were true partners in all they did in their home, yard, garden, community, church, travel and all other activities.

Jim was especially proud and supportive of his children Whitney and Jamie and their families. He provided unconditional love, support, encouragement, praise and always shared good “Pops” advice. He had a special way to always provide his family with support and guidance in a gentle and kind manner. He loved when the whole family was together and cherished many wonderful family vacations.

His love for both of his children, grandchildren, son and daughter in-law was strong, unconditional and endless. He so loved and was so proud of each and everyone one of them.

Jim provided outstanding contributions to his community and to the pharmaceutical industry. Working and owning Mitchell’s Drug Store from 1973 to 2011. Jim exemplified the profession of pharmacy by his knowledge, business acumen and above all always caring for the people he served. Jim worked tirelessly for many hours to ensure he gave his patients the best possible care. He was a mentor and inspiration to many, many pharmacists throughout his career, including his daughter Whitney.

The wellbeing and growth of this community was a heartfelt passion for Jim. He was active in every aspect of community building by providing countless hours of volunteer work for minor baseball, hockey, Asessippi Ski Hill, Kinsmen, curling club, golf club, Chamber of Commerce, United Church and many more… Jim sponsored countless community events and served on the board of United Pharmacists with his friends and colleagues. For his efforts Jim received the Bowl of Hygeia award in 2002, a prestigious pharmaceutical award given to an individual pharmacist who demonstrates outstanding contributions to their community and pharmaceutical service.

Jim’s legacy to his community, friends and family is long lasting. It was earned over a lifetime of caring and generosity, and will continue to have an impact for us and future generations. His legacy will be carried on by the people in this community and everyone he has touched over the years.

Through the years Jim loved participating and supporting local sport teams, hunting, fishing, golfing, curling and had developed a fond desire for gardening and yard work which was proudly exemplified by their garden and yard.

Jim was predeceased by his parents Julie and Graham, brother-in-law Don Young, Annie’s parents Victoria and Neil Galatiuk and brother-in-law Les Galatiuk.

Jim will be profoundly missed by his wife and partner Annie, daughter Whitney, son-in-law, Sean and granddaughters, Harli and Myla; son Jamie, daughter-in-law Jenn and grandchildren, Keelan, Hattie, Navy, Ruby and Knox; his sister Hazel; in-laws, Arch and Sharon Galatiuk, Brad and Maricela Galatiuk, Reg and Shirley Galatiuk, Jackie and Darin Becker as well as many, many friends and family.

Rest in peace our loved one.
