On the evening of November 28, 2023, Gerard Emile Bessette, passed away while surrounded by his loving family listening to Polka music.
His wife Elsie, of 69 years, predeceased him on December 10, 2015, his son Rick (Janice) predeceased him on September 19, 2015, his grandson Tommy predeceased him in 2010. Three sisters Yolande, Denise and Lucille have predeceased him. Gerard is survived by his brother Marcel Bessette, four children, Valerie Beemish, Joanne Nickson (Allen), Gary Bessette (Barry), Michael Bessette (Theresa); eight grandchildren Matt (Shauna), Geoff, Darrell (Taya), John (Alycia), Christine, Vivienne, Jonathan (Jessica), André and seven great-grandchildren, Chrystal, Kaeleb, Kasen, Kenya, Aria, Darion, and Cash. Amongst many loyal friends and extended family.
Gerard was born in May 6, 1923, in Altamont, Manitoba. He moved to BC in 1947 and worked at Crown Zellerbach for over 40 years. He worked very hard providing for his family. He enjoyed many years of retirement taking many cruises and trips to Hawaii with his wife and family. Gerard loved dancing and music and particularly the André Rieu Orchestra which was often heard playing in his home. On May 6, 2023 Gerard reached the milestone birthday of 100 years. He was able to celebrate the last birthday with his family and friends at his home where he has resided for over 50 years and in the last few years especially with the help of many kind caregivers. Gerard even managed to travel to Las Vegas to celebrate the milestone one week before his 100th birthday!
