GERHARD (GERRY) H. HOHL

Peacefully, Gerry passed away December 15, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Helen; children, Kathy Corbett, Gerald Hohl, Donna Hohl, David Hohl, and Christopher Hohl; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Mahri.

He was born in Jagstfeld, Germany, and immigrated to Canada in the early 1950s. An entrepreneur, many will think of Gerry from Fort Garry Plumbing and Heating with his shop on Pembina Highway. His big love was his family and he spent countless hours at hockey rinks, swimming pools, soccer fields, and wrestling tournaments watching, cheering, and supporting his kids and later grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Many family and friends will remember Dad behind the boat on Gundy Lake, (Lake of the Woods) with his insane 'flubbing' rides or racing snowmobiles across the lake. He loved to pitter patter around on his John Deere tractor, (sometimes transporting cases of beer)!

In the early 1990s, Gerry and Helen moved to South Surrey, BC. Dad loved the ocean and mountains but Winnipeg was always home. They returned to Winnipeg in 2019. Dad was diagnosed with dementia in 2022.

We want to thank the staff at Lions Manor for the wonderful care of our dad these past three months.

My soul finds rest in God alone;

my salvation comes from him.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Gerry & Helen were our neighbors at 19 Heartland Trail, Headingley. It was a pleasure to know both of them. Gerry always had something to say and was a tease. They often had visits from their little grandson down the street. We missed them when they moved. We have since moved also. Sympathy to Helen and the family. - Posted by: Alayne Pearen (neighbour) on: Dec 22, 2023

  • To Helen and the family please accept our deepest condolences. We spent many good times together with Helen and Gerry in the "small groups" days. We remember Gerry as a guy who could get things done quickly. Blessings, Michael and Karin - Posted by: Michael and Karin Neustaedter (Friend) on: Dec 21, 2023

  • My condolences to the family on the passing of Mr. Hohl. Although it has been many years since I last seen Mr. Hohl, I have nice memories of my time knowing him. He was a good person, who loved dogs (Saber), his children (the four I knew -sorry Christopher) and his doting partner in life (Mrs. H). May he rest in peace and his legacy continue through his loving family. - Posted by: Mark Balcaen (Old family acquaintance) on: Dec 19, 2023
