Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLISA JORGENSEN
May 1, 1957, Anton and Lisa had sold their belongings, packed up a little bit of clothes, a few memorable items, and three small children to embark on a life-altering trip. Canada was calling Anton to make a move to give a better life to their three children Ronald, Wayne, and Helen. After 7 days aboard a ship we landed May 8th, 1957, at Pier 21 in Halifax. It was then that it all set in we could not understand a word anyone was saying we did not speak a word of English, but here we were. We boarded a train that took us to Portage la Prairie arriving May 11, 1957. A stranger pointed to us and drove us to a farm, where they worked for pennies as a farm hand and field workers. This was to be the better life. In the old two-room house we lived in it did not seem so great for any of us, but hard work and love was what we saw, and learned from these two brave people wanting "a better life for their children."
A few years later they both got jobs at Campbell Soup plant in Portage la Prairie.
Lisa is predeceased by her husband Anton in 2003, and her son Ronald in 2010.
Left to carrying on her memory is her son Wayne and his wife Tina and family, her daughter Helen and favourite son-in-law Alan.
Being a widow, she moved to Winnipeg to be close to her family. She soon started to take bus trips with Helen and Al. Her love to see the country grew quickly and she soon enjoyed her days in travel with her "Bus Friends". For those who were fortunate to have met and known Lisa you would always be met with a big smile and one of the best hugs, she was our bus hugger. She was a gift, and a shining light through all her pain.
In 2020 she was not able to travel any longer. She suffered greatly for over 30 years with crippling rheumatoid arthritis, and it had taken its toll.
Mom is now in heaven free of pain, she can now hear, see, and speak again, walk and dance free.
Special thank you to those that visited her, spent time with her, listen to her stories of joy and pain. You know who you are, you meant so much to her as she sat waiting for those visits.
Before every trip that Al and I would leave on she would say "come back home safe" and "say hi to all my bus friends". Lisa has now made her last trip. "Goodbye all my bus friends."
No service will be held.
