MICHAEL ALEXANDER BROWN GARD

August 1, 1939 – December 8, 2023 (84)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael (Poppy) Gard at age 84. He passed peacefully, with family by his side.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Lois, of 43 years as well as his parents and siblings. Michael is lovingly remembered by his children, Brent (Jaclyn), Jayson (Sherry), Kyla (David), Daneal (Shanna), his 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Michael grew up in St. James and attended St. James Collegiate. He went on to obtain a professional accounting degree and was proud to be one of the first CGAs in public practice in Manitoba. Michael had a great love for music. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and could play any song requests by ear. His favourite artists were Hank Snow and Johnny Cash. He was a devoted husband and father who greatly enjoyed the outdoors, especially the time spent at the family cottages located in Farlane, Ontario and Grand Beach. He took his family on numerous vacations around the world. He loved playing cribbage, chess and horse shoes with his children and grandchildren. Poppy told many great stories that will live on in our memories forever. Poppy you will be greatly missed and remembered by those who knew you.

A private service will be held in the spring of 2024.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • So very sorry to hear of your father’s passing. May wonderful memories give you peace at this time. - Posted by: Susan and Russ Garneys (Friends) on: Dec 23, 2023

  • Sincere condolences to Brent and the rest of the family. Mike indeed helped to put CGA on the map in Manitoba and served as a mentor to aspiring practitioners. Left us all with a healthy surplus on the only balance sheet that counts. Rest in peace, my friend. Len Hampson. - Posted by: Len Hampson (CGA colleague and good friend) on: Dec 23, 2023
