DONNA EVA MESMAN
Donna Eva Mesman (née Gaska) began her life as a displaced person. She was born in Lübeck, Germany in the shadow of The Second World War. At the age of one - with her father, Julian, and her mother, Jadwiga - she moved to Winnipeg. Here she found her place.
She found her place in the city’s North End - attending school at Holy Ghost and St. John’s, where she developed her pragmatism and wry sense of humour. She found her place in her church - a lifelong parishioner of Holy Ghost, where she recognized hope and embraced faith. She found her place in her union - which stoked her sense of justice. Above all, she found her place in family - as a loving daughter, a best-friend sister, a steadfast mother, a quirky auntie, and a doting grandmother.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Zachary (Julie Price) and Daniel (Roxanne), grandchildren Ellice, Calvin, Rory, Brody, and Everly, sister Teresa Banman (Gerald), niece Lindsay Banman (Matt Penner), grandniece Norah, along with many great friends.
The grace and humour with which she approached every step of her life - right to the very end - is an inspiration to us all.
A service at Holy Ghost Parish will be held in her memory on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CancerCare Manitoba.

Having know Donna as a colleague and friend for many years I am filled with sadness at her passing as are you Zachary, Daniel and your families. After our retirement Donna, Fran and I would get together every month for our lunches (usually Donna would pick). Those were wonderful get togethers with laughter and stories about each of our families. As Donna's illness progressed she was no longer able to get out to lunch and we would chat on the phone or I would drop by for a visit. Donna always kept such a positive outlook about life and her illness because she knew she was in the Gods hands as she would say. Even when I visited her at Riverview and when my husband passed away she spent time with me telling me that God had different plans for my Rick. I last visited Donna at Grace Hospice just before Christmas and we had such a nice visit. Donna's love of her family was what she lived for and as she takes her place in heaven she will be very missed on this earth by so many. - Posted by: Sylvia Farley (Friend) on: Dec 31, 2023

Zachary, Daniel and Harry; I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear mother and friend. I was fortunate enough to work with Donna though the Union Movement and enjoyed her company as a friend as well. She was a steadfast friend of working people and her sense of social justice was unshakeable. She will certainly be missed. - Posted by: Susan Hart-Kulbaba (friend) on: Dec 30, 2023
