Joseph Albin Volek, 89 of Dauphin Manitoba, finally at peace passed away on December 28, 2023.
Joe was born on March 2, 1934 in Tilley, Alberta. He is predeceased by his mother and father Elizabeth (nee Svorad) and Joseph with later becoming the oldest sibling to two sisters Irene, Mary and his brother Edward (predeceased).
At a young age, Joe matched his work ethic and attention to detail in trades with a passion for sheet metal, boilers, heating and plumbing. Mastering his craft through schooling, apprenticeship and countless logged hours Joe earned his tickets in sheet metal fabrication, gas fitting, plumbing and attained his boiler inspection certification. Joe continued working hard over the years with beginnings in south western Manitoba, Dauphin, extensive time in North West Territory and finally, hanging up the tools (reluctantly) in Dauphin where he carried out his remaining years.
In 1955, Joe married Alice (nee Beuselinck) at Deloraine, Manitoba. Joe and Alice went on to have seven children: Greg (Barbara), Doug (Joyce), Michael (predeceased) (Linda), Jo-Al (predeceased), Wendy, Lynda Campbell (Tony) and Kathy.
In 1986, Joe married Betty (nee Kotlarchuk) and was blessed to gain a step-daughter, Betty Anne Bonnor (Mark).
After meeting Betty, Joe established himself within the community of Dauphin, Manitoba for the last 39 years remaining passionate and dedicated to his trades, family and friends. Joe is survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Joe remained devoted to his sobriety of 53 years asking God everyday for the ability to accept the things he could not change, courage to change the things he could and the wisdom to know the difference.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at St. Paul’s Care Home for the care they provided in Joe’s final hours..
A service was held on January 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. led by Father Oleg Bodnarski of Ukrainian Catholic Church of Resurrection from Sneath Strilchuk Family Care Centre, Riverside Road, Dauphin, Manitoba. The service was live streamed for those unable to attend.
Joe was laid to rest on January 4, 2024 at a private committal service held by Father Darius of St Antoninus Roman Catholic Church at Del-Win Cemetery, SE 3-3-23 Deloraine, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The War Amps, a cause that Joe was extremely fond of and supported every year.
