MILAN (MIKE) STEPIC
MARY LOUISE STEPIC
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of both our beloved parents this past fall.
They will be dearly missed by their three children - Jim (Hilda), Sonja (Guy) and Duane (Tanya), grandkids -Helena (Jeff), Jessica, Keenan (Celia), Ariana (Chad), William, Matthew, Milan, Luka and Vlad and their new great-grandchild Kylie as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mary was the third child of Julia and Leon DeVriendt and had an older sister Rose Kelly and older brother Frank DeVriendt all of whom have passed before her. Mary loved children and was thrilled to become a school teacher. She graduated from teachers college in 1959 where she enjoyed many years of teaching and subbing throughout the Winnipeg school system.
Mike was the fourth child of Jagica and Josip Stepic and had six sisters and one brother, all who have passed with the exception of Teta Mila and many nieces, nephews and cousins all who live overseas. Dad was a painter/decorator by trade as well a pilot in the Yugoslavian army but fled his home to come to Canada in late 1960.
Our Mom and Dad met within the first three months of him being in Canada and it was love at first sight! They were married in 1962 and started their family right away, all while our dad started his Painting and Decorating business and our mom taught grade 3.
Life changed for them both in 2018, as mobility issues prompted them to sell their home of 50 years in Windsor Park and move to assisted living at Devonshire House where they made many new friends and memories.
Our parents passed away 18 days apart after an 11-week ordeal. We will miss them both so much but are thankful that their struggle is over and they are now at peace.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life to honour our parents on Friday, January 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Coutu Funeral home, 680 Archibald St. followed by light refreshments and snacks.

We are sending out prayers and sympathies as you honor your father and mother at the celebration of life. I have warm memories of the vibrant and caring people your parents were in my childhood! I recall how my Nana (Anna Phillips) shared how Mike came over to Canada and lived with them (my Papa, Joseph to begin with. What a journey in life to help each other). God bless you all in this celebration of life. Respectfully, Diane and Brian Falkenholt (nee Otke), Kayla and Jared Karen and Tony Van Delft, Ron and Betty Otke. - Posted by: Diane Falkenholt (Extended Family) on: Jan 24, 2024

We are so sorry to hear the news of Mike and Marys passing. They were wonderful people who made everyone smile and feel welcome. The memories will always be there of our times at Gull Lake. May they both rest peacefully. Sent with love, Leanne. - Posted by: Leanne (Family friend) on: Jan 20, 2024
