MARVIN HUFF

September 28, 1931-January 22, 2024

Marvin passed away peacefully at the age of 92 at St. Boniface Hospital.

He was predeceased by his dear wife Joan and son Brian. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Karen (Murray), Lauran (Ken) and his loving grandchildren, Tyler (Cathy), Kyle, Jennifer (Eric), Ryan (Laura), Trevor (Kyla) and his beautiful great-grandchildren, Nash, Ruby, Landon, Hayden, Hudson, Adalyn and Leo.

Marvin was a proud firefighter with the City of Winnipeg, having served 34 years and retiring in 1992. He served as a Lieutenant for four years and was promoted to Captain for the last four years of his career. As well as being a firefighter, Dad always had a "side job'' working on his days off so he could provide his family with all the extras. He was a man with a strong work ethic and a great provider.

Marvin and Joan married in 1957 and grew their family, living on Polson Avenue, in Garden City, Margaret Park and Lindenwoods. They were also so proud and happy to have their cottage at Spruce Sands to share with their children and grandchildren. Marvin and Joan had some fun adventures, Hawaii, Mexico, cruising and their favourite winter getaway of Palm Springs. ''Life is good"

Marv loved to make a joke. Even with his failing memory and his declining health, there was always a joke and a smile to be had...and all those "Dad Jokes" worked wonders on his grandchildren who loved him dearly and thought he was the coolest GPa ever! His legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren, and the traits of kindness, generosity, caring and humour that he taught us all.

Marv celebrated a wonderful 92nd Birthday Party in September that his family will cherish forever!!

Thank you to the wonderful staff and friends at Lindenwood Terrace Assisted Living, who made life so easy and enjoyable as his health began to fail. He was able to get his wish and stay in the comfort of his home as long as possible.

Dad was also blessed by a gentle, peaceful death in his 11 day stay on the Palliative Care Unit of St. Boniface.

His family would like to thank all of the kind, caring and compassionate staff who treated him with grace and dignity until the end.

Wishing you a Gentle Rest Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grampa

"Old Grampa Marv"...

You will be remembered for the good you shared and a life well lived...

WE WILL LOVE YOU ALWAYS...

  • Marv was a wonderful neighbor at the cottage and was always so welcoming to me. Many great memories of hanging out with Brian during teenager summers, and then as an adult he was always so engaging and interested in my career and family news. He was also a good friend to my father even in the years after we sold the family cottage. Rest in Peace Marv, you were one of the good ones. - Posted by: Brent Turman (Neighbor) on: Jan 27, 2024

  • I only knew Marv in his retirement years, and was fortunate enough to be a part of the annual "Christmas Party" that he and 3 of his close former firefighter friends and their wives/partners shared every December. It was always a fun event, with the four buddies taking turns at being host. Many good laughs were had! He also was a former neighbour in his childhood years of a very dear friend, who remembered him as a very devoted son who looked after his (I believe) mother who was incapacitated. Marv decided to drop out of the festivities after the death of his son, which had a truly devastating effect on him, and I am sorry to say I lost touch with him after that, but will always remember him for his kindness and the fun I always had in his company. My sincere condolences to his family. - Posted by: Katherine Sullivan (friend) on: Jan 27, 2024
