I met Dennis in 2014 after I first began photography. Our paths crossed one day and we remained photofriends and would sometimes share our private locations and sightings with one another. Dennis was a class act and a wonderful man. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing and think of him often. My sincere condolences to his family. - Posted by: David Brophy (Friend) on: Jan 23, 2025

I have known Dennis for 50 years! Yes, we go way back. My late husband Al and Dennis shared many good times as well. Jan and I were workmates and I introduced them and eventually they married and we stood up for them! Since my husband passed 20 years ago, Jan, Dennis and I have maintained our close friendship albeit long distance as I live on Vancouver Island. As well, I am Godmother to their wonderful children. Such an honour for me. I will miss him dearly as will others who came to know his kind, gentle nature. - Posted by: Jean Glougie (Friend) on: Feb 01, 2024

We met Dennis through Tracey, many years ago. I remember the 4 of us walking through downtown Winnipeg looking for where Cowboy (male falcon) was nesting (my husband is from Winnipeg), and when we found him pure joy. Dennis taking many pictures and we were sworn to secrecy, as they did not want others to know where they were nesting (for their protection). Dennis loved nature and I always looked forward to his photos he took. I was on his list. (I am sure he had a long list of followers). I always bought calendars as Christmas gifts and being the kind man he was, he always sent my sister-in-laws (who lives in Winnipeg) to her, gift wrapped. We were to meet this fall, for coffee, if we came to Winnipeg but unfortunately, due to circumstances, we were not able to make the trip. I know he was a friend to so many. A kind, generous man and a love of spotting nature at its best, (and the country side). We will miss him. Bless you and your family fondest memories. Dennis Swayze was not only an Aquaintence/Colleague to the members of MCFC but a treasured member and Friend of the Manitoba Canary and Finch Club. Many of us had known Dennis for a decade or more and enjoyed Wildlife, Nature and Photography chats at our local club gatherings. Everyone always looked forward to our annual holiday exchange where he would gift Calendars and greeting cards he'd made from the photos he took throughout the year. The look of joy and excitement on his face watching everyone's glee was simply contagious and genuine. His efforts and knowledge with the Peregrine Falcon Recovery program will be a hard spot to fill. Club members will surely miss his summer updates on how fledglings and new pairs are doing around the province. As well, sparking conversations and seeing his work at our annual Fall Display where Dennis brought framed works of art, prints, cards and connected with the community. Dennis, you were a light, easy going gent with compassion for charities, love for your hobbies, family and friends. The shock still hasn't worn off for many members that you are gone. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this difficult time. But we all know this isn't goodbye, just a see you later and chat again soon. May the skies shine open and light the way for those seeking you amongst the clouds. As one of his friends, I am so thankful to have known Dennis. As with others, he shared his love of Wildlife and photography: Some examples: Bald eagles around Matheson Island, Snowy Owls at Oak Hammock Marsh, Osprey close to his summer home and Peregrine Falcons which he was instrumental in protecting. My condolences to all his family and friends, he will truly be missed - Posted by: Shelley (Friend) on: Jan 28, 2024

Dennis was a gentleman and a great friend. Smart, kind, funny, generous, passionate and compassionate, creative and dedicated. An almost chance encounter downtown lead to our almost 20-year friendship/partnership working with Manitoba's peregrine falcons. Dennis' love for the peregrines (and certain peregrines, in particular) can be seen in every photo he took of them. Their recovery over the last two decades was in no small part due to him. Thanks for everything, always Dennis. Miss you already. Your friend & road buddy, Tracy. - Posted by: Tracy Maconachie (friend) on: Jan 27, 2024
