ROBERT JAMES WARREN SHORE

1954 - 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert James Warren "Jim" Shore on January 30, 2024. After a few days in Palliative Care at the Nanaimo General Hospital, he succumbed to a lengthy battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, complicated by lung cancer.



Jim was predeceased by his parents, James Robert "Jim" and Jaqueline Isabel "Jackie" Shore. He will be fondly remembered by his partner of 18 years, Brenda Corner, his children, Jim Shore (Shannon Gibson), Laura Shore (Dan Madell), and by his siblings, Lisa Shore (Jack McDiarmid), Cynthia Shore, David Shore (Brigitta), Minto Schneider (Eric), Marlow Purves, Allan Purves, and many nieces and nephews. His greatest treasures were his grandkids, Millie, Ava, Everett and Lucy who will all miss their Ganka dearly.



Jim was born in Winnipeg in 1954, where he enjoyed summers at Lake of the Woods with his siblings, and hunting and fishing trips with his father to remote locations in Canada's north. He attended both St. John’s Ravenscourt School and Trinity College School from which he graduated in 1973. In 1977 he earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Manitoba.



Jim began his investing career in 1977 with Wood Gundy. In 1985, he purchased a minority interest in Rice Financial Group Inc. and championed and developed the firm’s first MFDA securities platform. In 1990, he founded broker dealer Summit Securities Ltd., offering training and distribution services to over 75 financial advisors representing 12,000 client families. In 1999, Assante Financial Management Inc. acquired Summit. In 2010, Jim became a Managing Director/Wealth Management of One Capital Management LLC, where he helped lead rapid Canadian growth until very recently. Jim was a former Chairman of Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) where his mentorship and business insights positively impacted many.



In 2004, Jim made a significant investment by acquiring a 40-hectare land development situated in Costa Rica. In this endeavour, he teamed up with an accomplished land developer to establish a quaint bedroom community nestled amidst the picturesque mountains.



In 2014, Jim and Brenda moved to Vancouver Island to spend their retirement years and be closer to the grandchildren. Jim loved starting his day with a coffee on his peaceful patio, overlooking the ocean and enjoying the company of his loyal buddy, Murphy. His primary passions beyond his professional pursuits were his many dogs, his family, and his beloved Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Bombers dominated Jim’s attention from June through to the annual Grey Cup in November, and he achieved a personal dream in 2019 when he watched the Bombers win the Grey Cup in-person, in Calgary. His extensive travels took him all over the world, including many cruises, climbing Machu Picchu with Jim and swimming with the dolphins in Mexico with Laura.



Jim’s self-professed greatest achievement was his four grandchildren. He had no reservations about jumping on a plane several times a year for visits, and clocked countless hours on FaceTime. The annual family trip was a mainstay in the calendar and a highlight of the year.



A Celebration of Jim’s Life will take place on Sunday, July 7 -- his 70th birthday -- at Lake of the Woods. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Jim’s memory may be made to the S.P.C.A.
