Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRMGARD NONNENBRUCH
On Sunday, February 18, 2024, Irmgard Nonnenbruch passed away at the age of 87.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her three children: Mario (Debby), Ramona (Carl) and Nancy (Trevor), her nine grandchildren: Alesia, Stephanie, Justin, Sean, Samantha, Cassandra, Katarina, Chloe, and Mia, her eight great-grandchildren, and her family in Germany.
Irmgard was born in Cologne (Köln), Germany on July 31, 1936. When she was a young girl, her family moved to a town called Hülscheid, in the Neunkirchen-Seelscheid area. Irmgard lived there until she was 24, then travelled to Canada to visit and help her sister, Marlena in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Through Marlena and her husband, Irmgard became involved with a German community called the Kolping Society. Shortly thereafter, she settled in Winnipeg, raised a family of her own, and became a Canadian citizen in 1970.
Irmgard was actively involved in her children's lives, volunteering in their school library, being a Brownie leader, and helping wherever she was needed. A few of her hobbies were sewing, knitting, puzzles, and bowling where she played in a couple of leagues for several years.
Once her children became teenagers, Irmgard became a member of the Deutsche Vereinigung von Winnipeg or the German Society of Winnipeg. There she enjoyed a social life sitting with friends at the big round table called "The Stammtisch". She spent many hours at "the Club" helping, preparing food for various occasions, and volunteering through the whole week in the beer tent during Folklorama for the German Pavilion. She truly enjoyed meeting the many people that came to see the shows.
Mom always talked about her family and her life growing up in Hülscheid, she really missed them a lot. After a couple of years of working, she began her travels back home, making yearly trips for many years.
It has to be mentioned that mom was really fond of cats of which the family had many to love throughout the years. Her love of cats was passed down to most of her family. But her true passion and love was the love for and devotion to her family, which always came first.
Our family extends thanks and appreciation for the kindness and care provided by the staff on "MP2" at Misericordia Place. As per Irmgard's wishes (she never wanted a fuss made for her), no service will take place. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity of your choosing.
Please hug a loved one and express to them the value they bring to your life.

to Mario, Ramona and Nancy, so sorry for your loss of your mom. I loved talking with her at Folklorama every year and she told me all about your family (this was pre-facebook era). She was so fun to talk to. Memories will live in you hearts forever. Benita. - Posted by: Benita Delfing (Friend ) on: Feb 24, 2024
